What is the absolute best CD you have ever heard?

I'm a big PF fan, BUT only the pre-Wall stuff. Roger Waters thought he was Pink Floyd and the others just his musical assistants. Children of the 80's praise Waters up the wazoo, and indeed he was a great bassist and lyricist, but he alone was not PF. The pinnacle of PF was the soundtrack-ish sound of the early 70's, the material leading up to DSOTM. Meddle is the best PF album, and one of my favourite albums of all time. DSOTM was a popularized version of Meddle, the two albums making up the best that PF has to offer.

I also rank up there with Meddle:

Jane's Addiction, Ritual de lo Habitual
Sepultura, Roots
Medeski Martin & Wood, Combustication

@Worldfrog - I agree with your opinion on some of Roger Waters' lyrics. It was him that made PF for me and I actually liked the Pros and Cons...

I have everything PF and Roger W have ever released (officially) and also three albums by Syd Barrett - an original PF founder member...those are way out freaky albums - real psychedelia at it's best

DSOTM - probably best concept album ever.

I have a CD of all Cole Porter songs - very good.

Another favorite - Steely Dan / Pretzel Logic (or fill in the blank every record is good)

Best record of all time though?

Giant Steps

(folowed closely by Maggot Brain, Sexual Healing, and James Brown live at Apollo)

LMAO Think how i feel, my musical selection is extremly eclectic, but i haven't heard of most of these bands. It's quite scary really.

I saw Ozzy live when they were first parading Zack, many moons ago (12-13 years?). Zach indulged in a very embarrassing childish tantrum and stormed off the stage following a power failure that lead to a 30 minute drum solo...

Actually, i think it might have been whatever rock opera Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsodies" came from that was the "first" rock opera. I might very well be wrong, however.

As far as the best album, my knowledge of music is not as extensive as i could wish (i'm still young though), but my opinion is that the album EMOTION IS DEAD, by The Juliana Theory is the best album i have heard to date. They are a relatively new and unknown band, though their rising popularity and extremely deep musical talent has landed them a record deal on the major label, Epic Records. And they deserve it! So many people out there are too quick to state that any indie band that signs to a major label is a sell-out. Well, anyone who says so is full of it, cuz the Juliana Theory deserves it, and I think it will only make them better.

You know, there's another album or two that I think quite highly of that nobody has mentioned. How about U2's Joshua Tree or Achtung Baby?

As for PF, well, yes, I agree - for me Waters was PF. I got one of David Gilmour's solo albums years ago, and it was pretty bland. After Waters left, the subsequent albums were by and large fairly lame, comparative speaking. That's not to say that I didn't enjoy them, but the real driving force behind PF for albums like The Wall and The Final Cut. I do really enjoy their earlier stuff, like Meddle and Saucerful of Secrets - but their later material was so much better, IMO, because of the lyrics.

Last I heard from Malmsteen, He had written a classical piece with a full orchestra cendtered around his guitar playing. Not like the Metallica thing, an actual original classical composition in the old school, except with electric guitar.

I will look up the Malmsteen classical thing - is there an album name?

IMO there is only a fine line between good rock and classical anyway, if you are talking intensity (dons flameproof vest

I think 2Pac is the greatest rapper of all time. He talks about something else than the usual gangster appeal or living large.

2 pac could also be accused of the Bling Bling attitude. Although he also made many records with soul, he created a happy medium (IMO) Do you like any other Hip Hop?
