opening locked chests

Post by cadre_of_storm »

ok im a gladiator fighter so have no skills when it comes to picking locks, and atm niether does my companion so how do i open locked chests and other items. I cant figure out how to bash them open like you could in NWN 1.

Dont tell me the game penalises all non rogue players by not allowing them to open somthing locked.

what am i missing

thanks

Somewhere in the game (in act 1 imo) you can find Commander's Ring, this ring is able to cast the spell Knock once per day. Or, a spellcaster who casts this spell.

Other than that, I think only way is bashing, since even +10 thief tools wouldn't be enough for locks at some point with low or no skills. To bash them, you need to hold right-click on a chest to get the menu and choose bash. But you'll break items inside (I think 1 item per chest) so this is not the optimal way.

Btw, this is perfectly normal. If you do not get anyone party that has an idea to meddle with locks, then of course you would suffer some consequences. If you get, say, all rogues and wizards, then you'll suffer a fragile party. This is why there are different classes and races. You gotta make a good combination to survive any ordeals.

Ahem, you can open chests by bashing them, but you'll end up breaking some of the content by doing so.

in the origninal Nwn2 if you bash chests open, then you're left w/ broken scrap. However, in the expansion when i've tried - the items never broke (for me they never did atleast)

But primarily, whether your playing the O.C. or the Xp, you should atleast be fitted with 1 companion who can open locks. Neeshka (for the NwN2) or the Homunculus of Safyia ..I forget his name but he's in the Xp.

In case you want another option, there's always that Knock spell for mages.

Hey... I think the last update prevents rogue companions from automatically opening locks. Does it happen to anyone else?

You may want to check out behaviour tab for companions, there is a related option there.

They will only open the locks if your currently controlled character fails to open it in the first place.
