i play a level 3 elf sorceror.
i just wanted to know what the best starting familiar is really because i looked into getting a bat but these have no attack ! is this normal ?
any advice on how to create the best possible familiar would be aweosme

Familiars aren't meant for combat whatsoever, but I'd say the best one is Raven due to the fact it automatically has language.

cheers dude. this is my 1st character as you could probs tell:laugh:
i have the miniature forbat so i think i will stick with that. however its base speed is 5ft :( is this correct because to perform touch spells would take ages ?

If it's a winged creature, then it's base land speed of 5ft would be accurate, but next to that should be a flight speed due to wings.

Which books are you allowed to use?
On low levels, a toad is popular. 3 HP is a lot for a first level sorcerer.
A rat is also good, since it boosts your Fortitude save, which is an important category of saves and it is weak for you.
If you're allowed to use Dragon Magazines, use the Hummingbird. It gives +4 to initiative, which is one of the most important stats.

On a side note: for spells, try to get a "control" spell like Web, Glitterdust, Everard's Black Tentacles, Grease at each level, or each odd level. Encounters in D&D are not won by damage, but by Control...
