I did a search, but I couldn't find anything on this.
Is there anywhere in the game you can find a filled Grand Soul gem (filled with a grand soul) at level 1? I know they're easy to find when you level up, but I don't want to level up, and I need to do some serious enchanting. I can find Grand Soul gems filled with common souls, but I need a grand soul.
Also, I don't really want to go hunting for a grand-soul creature. One reason, I'm not even sure if they exist when you're at level 1 (aside from possibly in quests). Another reason, I despise soul-trapping. -_- Even with weapons that soul trap, I still get annoyed with it. So yeah, I'd prefer a pre-filled Grand Soul gem.
Anybody know?

that maybe abit difficult, you may have to rely on luck to find one. I personally don't think there would be any around at such low levels. But there's that alternative if you can't:
(take Umbra's sword or learn soultrap & fill one up that way) & yes it is possible to take Umbra's sword from her at lvl 1

Umbra?? What? I know nothing of Umbra in Oblivion. I know of him as a GUY in Morrowind, but I haven't seen an Umbra in Oblivion yet.
I can make my own soul trap weapon; I have access to the Arcane University. Can you soul trap bandits? And if so, is their soul a grand soul?

Well, its one of the 18 or so daedric quests in the game.Spoiler
Spoiler
& Since in Morrowind it may've been a guy, on Oblivion, its a Bosmer gal named Umbra. Similar sword I presume but the type is slightly different as i've heard. & its supposed to be one of the best swords in the game. (although I beg to differ)
But for soultrapping Npc's / Bandits you need Black Soul Gems & these kinds are harder to get (only from necromancers) I don't think their souls count as grand souls, might be wrong tho. Only creatures with Standard Grand Soul Gems.

Then try the display case in the Arcane University Arch Mages Tower Lobby, there's at least one filled grand soul gem in it.

Yes they are grand souls, but you'll need black soul gems to trap them. Search the forum for Black Soul gems to learn more.

Yeah, I was JUST getting my Alteration skill level up high enough so I could make my own Open Very Hard Lock spell so I could go around and search all the Mages' Guilds and stuff for the filled gems in the display cases. I know I've gotten them from there before.
The specific location helps, though. Thanks. It's exactly what I needed.

I usually find a sack load of lockpicks does the trick.

Oy, I've picked so many locks in my day... I can't stand to pick them anymore. For the sake of my sanity, I HAVE to have an Open Very Hard Lock spell. I don't have the patience to get my Security skill up, either.

The best soul gem is still Azura's Star, as it is reusable. You can even soul trap your own summoned creatures. I know that a lich will yield a grand soul. I really never bothered with locks after getting the skeleton key.

Azura's star might be re-usable, but other than that it's not as good as a black soul gem IMO. Personally I always give it to Martin as I find it the most useless of all the Daedric rewards.

Soul trapping creatures of that magnitude is kind of out of the question at this point. I'm avoiding levelling up, so I wouldn't have enough Magicka. Unless I could enchant something to fortify my Magicka, but then I would need a filled Grand Soul gem to do that.

I didn't mean that as an answer to your original query. More of a few extra pointers which I found helpful in the game. Soul trapping summoned creatures is handy because you don't have to go hunting for other stuff and can do it in the relative safety of the city.

you cant USE the soul gem you can steal from the Arcane University Lobby untill you sell it to a FENCE, and buy it back "cleaned"...so hope you are in the Thieves Guild.
To find black soul gems, youll eithr have to kill a ridicoulus amount of necromancers (rare drops at low levels) or find a place you can make them, but then you still need empty grand osul gems for that.
Slightly off your questio, but go through oblivion gates and get the stones rom then, not very powerful at low levels, but you can get some pretty handy enchants from them .
Also theres probly a few places you can steal them (havent played for a while so not 100%) but the ayleid fanatic in the imperial city i think has some (if not he has a couple of varla stones). And I think theres some in chorrol somewhere (again, i havent played for a while ).
If you are drawn to it...attack it...get obsessed with it and conquer it...it doesn't matter if you think you can do it or not..its all in your head. Nikki Sixx <3
