How does natural healing works in icewind dale 2?
How does natural healing works in icewind dale 2?
Since i'm trying to do a good time, and i dislike clerics and druids i would like to know exactly how natural healing works.
The manual says that for each period of 8 hours a character heals it's level in points.
This is not true, i tried with elvel 5 characters and they heal 1 hp in 8 hours.
I would also like to know how inns and rooms affect healing.
I also would like to know how druids and clerics affects the natural healing.
It's really annoying to find out there isn't this information anywhere i found.
it's annoying having to bring a cleric if you pretend to do a decent time. What's more annoying is that the manual or the game little talk about the rules of it.

Resting in an inn increases your healing rate and you cannot be disturbed by monsters.
It's difficult to finish the game quickly (in game time) without a healer. You'd have to pound back the potions and make heavy use of NPC healers.
I think druids and clerics automatically cast healing spells on the party in one rest period (8 hours) and then rememorize the spells you've selected in the next rest period. That's why if your party is hurt badly (and has a cleric or druid), you'll always rest for at least 16 hours.
The manual is one of the worst game manuals I've ever seen.
Why don't you like clerics? A melee-oriented cleric or druid (high Str, Con, Wis) is one of the best characters available.

I could go more deep on what i expect when i play a roleplaying game.
But, while my thread seems to show i'm a pure powergaming player. i'm not.
I know clerics are probably the second best character in the game in terms of power (just behind sorcerers).
I don't like them for a roleplaying side of view. sadly i don't like druids either :S in fact those are the only two i don't like.
but well it seems i will have to have one if i want to do a decent time.

bards can use war chant 11 level song that heals the party. you can download a mod that makes it also non-combat (but the true version is only for combat)
Right Speech has four aspects: 1. Not lying, but speaking the truth, 2. Avoiding rude and coarse words, but using gentle speech beneficial to the listener, 3. Not slandering, but promoting friendliness and unity, 4. Avoiding frivolous speech, but saying only what is appropriate and beneficial.
i did the run, i want to note this is the second time playing the game (The first time i played until the gobling fortress where i restarted), i don't know how the game is, the only thing i read are some guids to help you build characters.
So i tried to play with the folloing home rules.
No Reloads(if i lose the game i lose, no reload)
I must finish the game before 60 days ingame has passed
No animate undead or improved invisibility (i read those spells are too good)
No buffs outside battle.
No Mods
No Pauses
So i started with a
4-Fighter/X barbarian Shield dwarf
X Monk Shield dwarf
X Sorcerer Asimar
X Sorcerer Human
1-Paladin/X Cleric (the first one) Human Asimar
3 Rouge/4 Fighter/X Wizard Drow
Well i had almost no problems until the goblin fortress. Then i had a few downs here and there(before i enter the fortress i had a hard time trying to figure out why lightning were falling in my head and resulted in two deaths), the goblin tricked me that resting with him would be safe and i fould a lot of wolves that killed two of my already very injured heroes.
Basically traveling back to resurrect, minus all the gold i was paying for it. Was putting a lot of time and gold pressure.
When Chapter 2 started i had 20k in gold and 18 had passed. Considering that there are 6 chapters i did the math and i was in a very bad position.
Si i decided to try to rest as less as possible
But here all was worst, The giants killed one hero, now i had 17 gold. in the fight to enter the temple everything went wrong i didn't understand cleary if i would have to fight and suddenly they sourrounded me , and a entangle, put me in a very bad position. And the fight ended with 3 deads. now i had only 9 K gold. I had to enter the temple, with 19 Days and only 9 K gold. Everting were ok. ..... Until in one passage i confrong the Queen worm. I thought she was a normal worm. What i didn't expect is that she would take 72 hit points of my dwarf in a single hit, The fight were horrible, and 4 Died.
i coudl have ressurrected them, but one exploded so i had 2500 gold, but i needed 4400. so i had to go without my Rouge. i had everyone in low health, i decided i would get back my equipment, and sell stuff to revive my rouge before continued, but when i tried to take my items, a man in a sword yelled ad me and trhowed a fireball wich killed 3 of my injured recently resurrected heroes. With only 2 heroes left and only 2500 gold, i realized i was doomed.
Maybe i will do another try/run another time in the future.
But i want to ask a few things.
Do you think is possible for a player that doesn;t know the game until the named point to finish the game in 60 ingame days without the house rules i named?
One of the reasons i had spended almost 16 days (besides having to go to shangarde to revive) is that most rest needed 24 or 32 hours to heal my full party, it's that normal?

Without your house rules it should be possible, but you'll still have to be very lucky.
With your house rules you must be a genius to get as far as you told.
If you have version 2.01 you don't have to bother about "Improved invisibility", it's fixed and isn't almighty any more. "Animate dead" got downgraded with the patch too, it's capped at level 9 now, but still very powerful.
If a character dies and you have no money for resurrecting you can create a new one to replace him. This is the traditional approach, but it might lead to an unbalanced party.
"Rest until healed" works the following way: Your healers memorize healing spells, rest, and cast the healing spells at the first injured character. They repeat this until all are fully healed, afterwards they rest again to memorize the spells you selected. Therefore you can save a lot of time by disabling "rest until healed" and healing manually instead. It also helps if your healer has many spell slots, a pure dwarven cleric gets far more than your aasimar paladin mix.

Thanks a lot for the help. I was feeling bad for not getting past the beginning of chapter 2, now i realize i maybe set the bar to high.
About the no pause thing. I play the game with a friend, and each one plays 3characters each. So maybe that makes things easier.
So the next time i will try to do a re run changing a little the home rules, maybe an extended time (maybe as high as 200 Days, now considering that the game is a lot harder than i thought, i set it to 60 days because one guy there told he finished the game in hof in 53 days).
And maybe with buffs outside the battle (the reason i do this rule is because i find highly annoying having to cast every buff everytime i rest)

It's still tough with 3 characters. Pausing enables you to make optimal use of your characters' time, spells, and tactical positioning.
Some buffs you should/have to cast outside of battle. Mage Armor and Stoneskin, for example.

Interesting Iron Man challenge! U can still increase the difficulty playing on HoF (U should drop your 60 days limit though)! If at least one character survive vs goblins in Targos haven (nice challenge without pausing&reloads, especially in the warehouse), I'll sincerely congratulate U!
Actually, it's a good training when U know that any goblin could inflict U 60-100hp damage at a critical hit in melee. If U switch later to the normal mod, U'll be not surprised at all at 72hp by Queen Worm!
If U wanna speed challenge then skip all unneccessary battles using Invisibility/Hide. I tried this challenge in IWD1 on HoF and finished just in few ingame days.
