First off, I have been using gamebanshee for about a year now. Finally registered. There seems to be a plethora of knowledge here, and decent people who don't hate newbies like other sites do. So there's my intro post I guess. On to more things Morrowind:

I'm thinking of getting a new RPG, and since my graphics card is good enough to run KOTOR games, but lacks pixelshader and stuff req. by Oblivion and the Witcher, I'm stuck with old stuff. I have ATI Radeon 9250 by the way. Anyway, I really want something with a good enough story and plot to suck me in. After all, that's the point of RPG's, isn't it? (I guess that's a little opinion.) Anyway, since my fist 2 choices are out, I've turned to Morrowing or Neverwinter nights(Diamond) Now I'm no computer geek, so alot of stuff I don't know, so forgive me if I sound ignorant. I guess what I really want is a few unbiased reviews of the game (Morrowind or NWN1 or heck both if your that nice) Major points are story and less annoying aspects. If you can, maybe an example of how the story is good. [Hey if anyone needs help in the KotOR games ask me.] Graphics I know about already and can see pictures. I know I'm asking alot, and I hope it's not something you've all heard 100 times before on here. I'm just a money consious RPG'er who needs something older. Thanks alot for any help in advance.

Well I've played both, and IMO Morrowind is the better choice. Better storyline (but as you say that's a matter of personal opinion), but for me the clincher is that Morrowind has much more replay value. Also with the PC there are a heck of a lot of very good mods available that expand the gaming experience a lot more. Graphically I prefer Morrowind over NWN (and NWN 2 for that matter), again the visual experience can be greatly enhanced with mods.

I wouldn't play Morrowind unless you have more than 256 MB RAM. That's because you'll always be swapping memory in and out when you come to the "edges" of relatively small areas. With 500 MB or better still, 1 GB, you can not only play Morrowind without worry, you can also load in dozens or even hundreds of player-made mods that add new quests, cities, objects, NPCs, etc.

It's definitely great that way.

I would also place my vote for Morrowind. But yes, make sure you have as much RAM as possible.. this becomes especially important when you begin adding some of the user-made excellent plug-ins available.

I was running Morrowind on an old (bought 2001) computer until fairly recently, and it was a real slog at times, so I also suggest you look at ways to improve your game performance. I think there are some posts about it in the sticky thread we have called "Morrowind Yellowpages."

The best part of the NWN Diamond Edition is the two expansions you get.. but the original campaign is pretty lacklustre.. largely because it was primarily intended as a multiplayer game. They did not put all that much effort into the single player campaign. I started the NWN1 OC several times.. but I never managed to finish it.

This probably goes well afar from MW (don't shoot me please, Fable :D ), but as a very brief aside, given the topic of your thread, if you are looking for good, older RPGs with an amazing story and plot.. if you haven't already played it, I highly recommend Planescape Torment.

Welcome to Game Banshee btw! :)

Personally, I just play Morrowind for Xbox. They are pretty cheap now. But Morrowind is definitely a great RPG. I also recommend getting the Game of the Year Edition. There are much more quests and lots of great gear!
