Fathis Aren-Thieves Guild Quest. (Spoilers)

Post by unregisturd »

I'm doing the Arrow of Extrication quest, and I went into Castle Bravil, and since I've already done the quest, I did it rather quickly. I got into Fathis' room via Invisibility Potion, searched the chests, then went behind the secret movable pillar. I went into the Wizard's Grotto, also whilst invisible, killed the Dremora Churl without him seeing me, then picked the locks to the gates. Then I explored the tunnels and what not and killed the two Conjurers, got to the locked door, and went down underwater and killed the Great Slautherfish or whatever, aand.. I found the underwater entrance. I explored everywhere, and the only way I can go is through the locked door. Now, from what I remember from going through it last time.. Shouldn't Fathis arrive at some point? And he's the only one with the key to get through that door, right? Well.. I can't find him. I've tried going into his room at night AND during the day and at all times, and in the tunnels, too, and I can't find him. Does anyone know where he hangs out or anything? I tried asking the characters in the game, and they all say the same thing, which is no help at all.

Edit: Ok, I did a search (which did nothing to help except jog my memory). I remember you somehow end up in a fort--don't remember what it's called--and that's where you find Aren. But aren't I supposed to be able to get to the fort through the Wizard's Grotto? And how can I get through that door if Aren has the key?

Nevermind! Urr! I swear, I ran through/swam through those tunnels for at least 30 minutes. I searched them thoroughly. AND I looked on my map for this one passageway (the passageway that I eventually needed) that's underwater, and I could NOT find it, though I was EXACTLY where it was on the map. I eventually gave up and thought the map was referring to a different underwater passageway (which was in the near vicinity). This is all hard to explain in type, but all you really need to know is I found the passageway I needed. It was VERY frustrating, though! I hate looking for underwater doorways. -_-

Dude, I know exactly what you are talking about. I was trying to find the entrance for like half an hour before it just appeared randomly right before my eyes!!!

There are pretty similar threads to this one which already exist. Here's an example.
