Anyone know how to get by this, or is it harcoded into the game?

You want to take a look at the Gibberlings 3 Tweak Pack. One of the optional tweaks lets you sleep anywhere you want.

yes it is the usuall tweak pack, the same mod where you can get rid of "you must gather your party befor ..."
