Rogue or Monk?

Post by haydox »

Well, ive not played this game in ages and i fancy playing a rogue or monk, having played neither class before. Which do people think is the most fun and are there any specific races i should go for? Also, for each class what are the must have attributes (str, dex, cha...is attribute the right word?!), skills and feats? Also, if i go rogue should i try for assassin or shadow dancer?

Thanks

well if you enjoyed playing fighters before go for monk and do not multi class (or maybe add 4 fighter for higher bab if you are playing MotB so that in the end you will have 26 monk/ 4 fighter).

if you want to play a rogue i suggest you go for 1 shadow dancer and the rest rogue. raise bluff (for feint) as well as other skills and use short sword or kukri dual wield.

then its up to you,if you want to try something new go for rogue if you want to try playing melee with a little difference go for monk. hope i helped a bit :)

You helped loads, thanks! Ill go for rogue with 1 in shadow dancer. Ill check dancer out to see if i want to get a few more levels in it.

Any suggestions on class? Was thinking of a halfling maybe.

race for a rogue

yes halfling is good. from the 2 i d get strongheart because they get a free feat like humans (i d get luck of heros). use dual kukris or dagger (kukri is better) do not use short sword or any other small weapon with halflings cuz it will count as medium and you ll suffer a minus to attack bonus :( .

other good races are tiefling, moon elf, wood elf (but -int hurts) and in MotB air genasi. with these you could use either tiny weapons or small since their meduim sized races :)

Thanks a lot, i was thinking of being strongheart for the feat. Just gotta reinstall the game...for some reason when i clicked create character it froze, then i got weird multi-coloured horizontal lines at the top of my screen (which was all black) and i had to reboot...

Update: OK, gone with a strongheart halfling, with the recommended attributes (str, cha etc.) as they seemed good. I then used recommended skills except instead of 4 in use magic device i got 4 in bluff. And for my feats i got lightning reflexes and two weapon fighting. Also, slightly off-topic, snce upgrading my computer (£800!), i can now play on totally full graphics!

some small suggestions

you started your build ok but i think you should of kept use magic device cuz it could be very useful and try to put bluff instead of something else (like trap setting or diplomacy since you ll have bluff for speaking). and i recommend taking luck of heroes in stead of lighting reflexes cuz you will get plenty of relfexes later on dw  remember to always raise dex and in the beginigng at least have 10 charisma (try to not have any negative attributes).

if you like your character the way it is then you should keep it that way :) but since you have just made it you still have chance to remake it if you like what i am saying. anyways hope you hf playing a rogue. (i love playing rogues and fighter/rogues :D )

(btw i think the screen got screwed when you went to create character because you did not have the hardware requirments) (thats whats happened to me :( and i still can t play it)

I might try find a console hack to change my feats etc. Im sure there is one out there!

Also, after reinstalling it worked fine. Ide be very worried if it was hardware problems as i just rebuilt my system (£800)! 2.4GHz quad core, 4GB RAM and the brand new Radeon 3870X2 (twin GPU!).

Edit: Turns out its quite complicated to change that stuff! I think ill just leave it as it is. I might try and edit my skills though to have magic device instead of set trap, that seems simple.
