Leviathan problem

I just started playing KOTOR and I'm enjoying it immensely. However, I seem to have either run into a bug or missed something obvious. I'm on the bridge level of the Leviathan and cannot for the life of me figure out how to get in the airlock. I have the space suit from the armory, but it won't let me use/equip it (even when I'm unarmed). Did I miss doing something?

Just click on the door and you will automatically unlock it and put on the space suit (just click it normally, don't try to use security on it)
