Help with new char creation

Post by wusybuble »

Hey guys,

I have a feeling my char is about to die. Right now I am playing an assassin. I love it. So I want to stay with a melee type char. My DM allows for any race to be a player race that is reasonable. We get all the benefits of the race but we have to take the lvl adjustment hit. I get to start off at lvl 13, same lvl as the rest of the group but with 0exp in to the lvl. Give me some ideas.

We currently have a healer, ex-monk (new char that we just met and have not found out exactly what he is yet), bard, dragon shaman, and warlock.

Give me some awesome race/class combos to look in to and play with. I loved my barbarian till our dragon shaman killed me in our never ending charmatic strike duel to the death. His darn damage shields and crit x3 finally got me.

How about a race that gives a terrific bonus to certain stat, good natural armor and something I can tank with? Time to show up the dragon shaman! lol

Thanks guys,

Wusybuble

Brute

A class I created that so far I love is the brute. It's a barbarian kit, but no barbarian rage, can use 2-handed weapons in 1 hand(and can dual weild them at lv2 without penalty) and has 1D12+1 HD. Downsides are that he is blind.
Weapon Proficiency with everything, +1 to hit every level, Weapon focus/improved critical with any 1 great-weapon at level 1.
Tremor sense at level 4, and can't use magic items other than potions / weapons. (including armor/rings etc.) +1 Natural armor every 3 levels. That can get kind of iffy though, and I had to drop that for the Dm to let me use the class.
Official type-up:
Brute

Kit for: Barbarian

HD: D12+1

-2 on Bluff checks, but +2 on intimidate, and persuade checks
Able to weild any two handed weapon not considered two weapon-fighting(Great axe, great sword, or a weapon 1 size category larger than normal)
No barbarian rage
No Lawful alignment
Weapon Focus(Greatweapon of players choice)
Weapon Proficiency All weapons
Toughness (1x)
Two weapon fighting

Play this guy, and drop all who come at you. The only problem is armor... Not so good with armor. Forgot to put this in the 'official' type-up, but:

Light Armor: No penalties
Medium Armor: -2 to hit, lose improved critical from class
Heavy Armor: -5 to hit, lose weapon focus/improved critical

However, stuff like stone skin is fine.

In sucha divers group, I'd go with a basic character.
Let the rest show of with their unreal characters.
Create a human fighter and come up with a nice backgroud is my advice. Take a prestige-class later to give it some spice. A Dragon rider perhaps, to taunt the dragon character with. ;)
Guinness is good for you.
Gives you strength.

As a Blue Ardent, i'd recommend becoming one. If you took the mind domination and took the empower spell feat. You'd hit for for 90 points of damage, assuming they failed thier will save, and they had a mind. Mind thrust for the win!

Take a warrior for a while (level him) then take the BlackGuard or Fist Prestige class. Could work out to be a ravager or a red.

Just go for wizard and look up decent combo's.
Or druid, to control all.
Race combo is harder, though. As druid benefits from high wis, none of the core classes would help you boost that stat. Aasimar is closest, but only believable if you go for NG. The LA+1 is a major downer too, especially for a caster. In the same way is a tiefling not THAT good for a wizard either. You could go with Gray Elf, +2int+2dex, -2str,-2con. The str loss is no problem, the con loss could be more. At lvl 13, a wizard shouldn't care about HP anymore, and you get ioun stones to make concentration checks instead of fort saves, so no worries.

You keep mentioning Red in multiple threads. What is Red? Red Dragon Disciple, Red Wizard of Thay, Red Knight Priest?
Listen up maggots, Mr. Popo's 'bout to teach you the pecking order.
It goes you, the dirt, the worms inside of the dirt, Popo's stool, Kami, then Popo.

My vote is for a Necromancer (wizard specialist)/monk...

Specialise in Necromancy touch spells from the spell book combined with the bonuses from a Monk unarmed attack....

:)
I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhauser gate. All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain. Time to die.

One of the best Tank builds around: a Goliath Crusader.
