I can't believe it. What a bummer. SPOILERS
Just got to the Asylum and was confronted by Irenicus and found out Yoshimo has betrayed me.
Say it's not so.
I never ever expected that. I mean I knew something was wrong by some of his comments, but I thought it was something like him being hunted by somebody, but to betray me. Say it's not so.:speech:
I had to save the game before I went through the gates to get Imoen and stop playing while I pour a glass of wine and gather my thoughts.
Man I was not ready for that

They turned me loose from the nervous hospital. Said I was well.

Now you know why I told you to cross the bridge when you came to it regarding who to replace Imoen with Sonny.
It is a bit of a shocker the first time it happens though isn't it if you haven't suspected anything. A nice, nasty twist in the story line. Nice in as much as it gives the story much more fullness, but a nasty, nasty shock. It's things like that that make this stand above most of the others in my book.
Congratulations on avoiding the multitude of spoilers that give that away by the way.
Distrbution of games, is becoming a little like Democracy (all about money and control) - in the end choice is an illusion and you have to choose your lesser evil.
And everything is hidden in the fine print.
Yea, and that was not an easy task either. I think the only way I made it through that was with the help of the Amulet of Power that Aran Linvail gave me. I put it on Minsc and then after I found the Mace of Disruption in the pool of blood, gave that to Minsc also and things got a little easier after that.Dummy wrote:

Yea, you're right, sure made that decision easy for me:laugh:galraen wrote:Now you know why I told you to cross the bridge when you came to it regarding who to replace Imoen with Sonny.

I'm glad I was able to avoid them to. It would have really ruined a great twist. Man was I surprised!!!. Kept thinking it had something to do with someone after him or maybe women troubles. But to betray me! Never.:speech:
Well back to the game. I'm in some maze area that Bodhi put me in. Boy that old girl is like a bad cold, just won't go away. Wander whats next. Man I love these BG games.

I'm glad you got to experience that in the game without being spoiled. Now you know what most players have known about for years. It's a real jaw-dropping moment, isn't it?
The thing is, there are several clues in the game. For example, Boo might have warned you about Yoshimo when you first met him:
YOSHIM0: So there is sanity in all of this madness. If you are not in league with the evil that dwells in this unholy place, Yoshimo begs your assistance.
MINSC: We serve no evil mages, no sir! But Boo looks upon you with suspicion, little man. How is it you come to be here? Never have I seen Boo's whiskers quiver so!
YOSHIMO: I am not sure how I came to be here... like you, I suspect. I have been trying to find my way out, but I was wounded in my attempt to do so.
(etc.)
Here is something to ponder: Yoshimo really is your friend. As he said, "I apologize. There are circumstances that you are not aware of." Keep that in mind if you plan to seek vengeance.

It sure was. I'm still running it through my thought process.VonDondu wrote:I'm glad you got to experience that in the game without being spoiled. Now you know what most players have known about for years. It's a real jaw-dropping moment, isn't it?

What's weird, was right before I went to do the De'Arnise Keep, I was thinking about dropping him and taking Nalia and then getting Yoshimo back after I rescued Imoen. Wonder how that would have played out? I know you guys know the answer, but don't tell me, I may try it next time.
You know, I remember the talk between Minsc and Yoshimo at the beginning, but I thought it was just Minsc being Minsc. Boy was I wrong. Thanks for the tip about him really being my friend, that helps ease the sting.
I just can not believe I was so far off on this and had no clue.
I had planned on the guy being in my final party. Oh well, the best laid plans as they say.

Yes, you should try going to Spellhold without Yoshimo in your party next time. Yoshimo planted a spell component in your food while you were on Saemon's ship, which Irenicus activated when you met him in Spellhold. It makes you wonder what the alternative could be.sonny wrote:What's weird, was right before I went to do the De'Arnise Keep, I was thinking about dropping him and taking Nalia and then getting Yoshimo back after I rescued Imoen. You should also consider siding with the other "guild" in the so-called "guild war". Maybe you can make sense of Bodhi's reasons for "competing" with the the Shadow Thieves (I never could). Either path will take you to Spellhold.
I don't know if you realized it, but once you're in Brynnlaw, there are two ways to get into spellhold (as the NPCs you meet there will explain). You can either ask the Pirate Lord to have you committed, or you can "talk" to the retired Cowled Wizard who lives in town.
As you can see, there are many different paths to Spellhold. To be honest, I never enjoyed the maze, so I like to get out of there as soon as I can. (Don't miss any of the treasure, though.)
Yes I was able to find out that there are two ways to get to into Spellhold. The reason I went with Perth was because I helped Ginia the Courtesan to escape, which meant I had to kill Chremy. After that I was not sure how I would be treated by the Pirate King.VonDondu wrote:Yes, you should try going to Spellhold without Yoshimo in your party next time. And I am considering siding with the other guild when I play through the 2nd time, but I was concerned if your party has to be evil to take that route.
After I finish SoA, I would like to play through it again before doing ToB, but with a good party if possible.
I know it sounds crazy, but I was so pumped over that twist, I've had trouble going to sleep. can't keep my mind off the game. Oh, well, going to try to get some sleep, again.
