Something about the ending that always bugged me. (Spoiler)

This is something that ALWAYS has disturbed me.

After you have defeated Melissan, the Solar talks with Imoen about her essence. Now, what I pictured in my first playthrough, I instantly realized that there was one Bhaalspawn left to kill and instantly found myself in a huge moral dilemma here.

It all happened so fast and to my huge surprise Imoen could simply give her essence away, just like that. I, however, was MAJORLY disappointed. Don't get me wrong, I don't dislike Imoen, on the other hand, killing her would be the only thing I wouldn't do in order to grasp the Throne for myself.

~~

How come she is able to give it away? Wouldn't everyone who got slaughtered at Saradush had given it away it they could? Why did Balthazar plan on taking his own life after having killed the Five, instead of just giving it away?

Wouldn't the ending had become way more intense and interesting if the last enemy you had to face wasn't some outrageously migty demon of demigod, but rather your half-sister, who wouldn't even defend herself?

Wouldn't that really have depictured the EPITOME OF MURDER and henceforth made the ending a lot more epic? To take the place as the Lord of Murder, the final kill, the hardest strike, etc etc.

I dunno, it's just something that's been on my mind since the first time I killed Melissan and I'm interesting in hearing your thoughts about it.

I never thought about it (probably since I always play Good), but killing Imoen to seize the Throne for yourself would be an awesome ending.

I never really thought it was a problem, because 1) you're at the Throne of Bhaal, where...unusual...things are likely to take place (to say the least), and 2) the choice is given to Imoen by a Solar, who was specifically charged by the gods to see the destiny of the children of Bhaal brought to its conclusion and presumably given special powers by them to that end. It was impossible for Imoen (and any other child of Bhaal) to voluntarily give up her taint under any other circumstances. You just have to accept the fact that what you're witnessing is a very special moment in the history of the universe.

Yeah, that's the conclusion I accepted as well. I still think it's very cheap and dull compared to the option.

But meh, it was the same thing when I found out what they had planned to do with Imoen in the original SoA. I kinda feel robbed of two moments that would've emotionally overwhelmed me, looking back at how they could've done it.

But well, ofc we must have happy endings to everything, yaddayadda. :P
