I've been having a couple glitchy problems with Oblivion, and the most annoying one is probably one that I've been experiencing lately when I try to complete the last Fighter's Guild quest. This site has been a lifesaver during the game because of the guides, so I thought someone here might be able to help me out.
I don't have any trouble when I enter the Blackwood Company and kill all of the members, but after I destroy the Hist Sap tree I get confronted by Maglir. He attacks me, so I kill him, and then I report back to Oreyn; the problem is that every time I try to finish the quest, Oreyn bans me from the Fighter's Guild for "killing another member." I can only assume that he means Maglir, because I've tried the quest at least three times over without killing anyone aside from the Blackwood Company members, and I wait for them all to attack me. I even tried luring Maglir outside after he attacked me so that a guard killed him, but nothing works. I really just want to finish the questline, so I would really appreciate it if anyone has any ideas.

One thing you can do, if you strongly feel that attacking Maglir causes you getting banned from the fighter's guild.XKilimanjaro wrote:I've been having a couple glitchy problems with Oblivion, and the most annoying one is probably one that I've been experiencing lately when I try to complete the last Fighter's Guild quest. If you have access to any enchanting alters - Arcane Univeristy or that Frostcrag Spire Plug in - Learn (buy) the alteration spell (Reflect Dmg) then you 'should' be able to enchant any armor or shield you wear with it. Or if you have any armor or shield with the 'reflect dmg property' laying around (even better) but when he attacks you, just stand there & block him while he kills himself.
I found this the best way around getting bounties or banned altogether. Since attacking seems to trigger it.
Hope that helps some.

I will definitely give that a try- I've been meaning to use that enchantment anyway. One question regarding enchanted armor: if you obtain some, then can you add enchantments to it or change the enchantments on the armor?
I'm pretty sure it's Maglir that's causing me all of this trouble, though. Have you completed the quest? I can't think of any other Blackwood Company members who are also in the Fighter's Guild, and I went straight there after speaking with Oreyn; I didn't fight anyone else.

Hmm, sounds like a glitch. Maglir shouldn't be a member of the FG faction any more by the time you destroy the hist tree, because he already quit to join the BC. I killed him and nothing like what you describe happened to me. Are you sure you didn't kill another FG member in some friendly-fire accident before you destroyed the hist tree?
Anyway, two thoughts. First, talk to Oreyn, Azzan or Burz gro-Khash and see if you can do penance to get reinstated in the guild. I've never been kicked out of the FG, but if it's like the TG or MG you can probably do a quest or pay a fine to get back in. Second, if you're playing on the PC (but not 360 or PS3) you can probably use a console command to fix it.

Can the answer to this question be "No"?
Do you talk to anyone in the Blackwood company or just start hacking? If you just enter and start killing people before they've attacked you, then some of them will still be considered 'innocents', which would short cut the process, meaning that when Maglir attacks you he's doing it 'Lawfully' and will not have been expelled from the FG before you kill him. If he starts the attack in the normal course of events following the scripted conversations there shouldn't be any problems.
If you've done everything 'by the book' and it is still happening then it is bug, possibly set up by the earlier 'More unfinished business' quest where you had to collect Imp gall for Aryarie. If that's the case and you're on a PC there are ways around it, possibly the simplest is to open the console, click on Maglir and type in disable. If that doesn't work, then let us know and I'll find another way. If you're on a PS3 or XBox, then you have problems, and I'm not sure how to resolve them, apart from going back to another save, or (shudder) giving up on the fighters guild completely, I really hope it doesn't come to that though.

I did commit a couple of murders in this really out of the way town during a quest, but I spoke with Oreyn after that to originally get the Blackwood Company quest and he didn't say anything. I loaded an earlier game to undo all of that anyway, and I'm going to try completing the quest again.
And galraen, I made sure to go through the dialogue first. I even waited until the guys swung at me first to attack, because I was originally afraid that it was the problem. I'm definitely not giving up, though. Not when I am so close to finishing.
To answer an earlier question, I have the game for a console, my beloved Xbox 360. Not always the best for religious RPGers, but Jade Empire did come out exclusively for the Xbox, and that was a fantastic game...
Back on topic, I'm going to complete the quest again to see if restarting it doesn't help. In any case, thank you so much for all of your help. You guys are really sweet.
[edit] Hmm, this is rather perplexing. So I loaded an earlier save, then got caught up again. I spoke with Oreyn and got the quest, then spoke with him again to make sure he didn't think I had killed anyone. Afterwards, I fast-traveled to the Blackwood Company, completed the quest by the book, and returned, when he accused me of killing a guild member again.
I guess the only thing I can do at this point is try to receive redemption with some sort of quest...even though finding 20 bear pelts is not my idea of fun. Oh, well. Thanks for your input, guys.
[Sorry, fable. ^^;]
