Oh happy day! (The joy of editing)

Post by Thomas »

Some of you might have noticed that I've all but abandoned this messageboard for quite some time now. The reason for this is that I recently discovered the joys of editing the game more indeepth than I've done earlier.

Having painstakingly learned how to edit items, wich was a lot easier than I expected, I set out to make my favorite items in BG2 a bit more pretty. Then I realized that I could just as easily change the items where they are present in the game! Imagine just how cool that is for a bored player such as myself. The enemies now actually make one heck of a challange now with their new upgraded weaponry and armour.

Soon I'll learn how to edit the creature files themselves. Imagine fighting trolls with 120hp and dragons with 2000hp! I can hardly wait. Image

I know I'm rambling here but many people seem either reluctant or just don't know how to change the items in the game in the opponents favour. 'Tis much more interesting way to increase difficulty then just making the critters do more damage.

And I managed to create some really pretty items to boot, though completely by chance since I have no idea what numbers that stands for what colour.

Anyone familiar with TeamBG's Infinity Editor that knows the codes for some good colours like gold, deep blue and such? I guess I'll just look at the codes for the other items and learn what goes where otherwise.

colors are easy...there are 4 slots:
1:basic colors
2:red
3:green
4:blue

to find a color scheme you like go into any art program and open up the palette, then looking at the custom colors simply take the same numbers and put them in the editor.

editing creatures can be done, by HEX editing. Or basic things with the CCBG2 available from www.teambg.com or www.teambg.org

Thank you Shadowstrider. I already have downloaded some of the items from your site, though I changed them a fair bit before implementing them I must confess, so I understand that you're close to a master when it comes to editing the game.

Looking at the rainbow beam of the palette is all good and well but I find it hard to find the "nicest" colours at the moment. Still I managed to create some interesting shades and metallic colours by looking at items already created.

Have started to edit the creatures now. Funny that changing the game and then replaying it could be so worthwhile. Might even keep me going until Heart of Winter is realeased here.

hehe like changing the bastard sword +1(skeleton warrior), or simple axe and halberds, or splint mails Etc into a immence magical Equipment.

that's cool, should consider giving one magical item and solo the game
