problem with "fun with pestilence"

Post by elza »

Hi,
don't know if anyone has asked this before, but I've got a problem with the "Fun with pestilence" quest. Tin Can Bill told me to go down to the sewers and then I guess I'm supposed to unlock the door in the sewers, but it just stays locked, my character doesn't start lockpicking it for some reason. Or is there another door that I've missed?
And one more thing - is it normal that whenever my experience reaches eight or more it just goes back to zero?
Thanks to anybody who answers these questions!

Do you get the close-up shot of the lock, but no lockpicking action?

Sometimes it helps to back your character up or move around a bit and then try again.

My character encountered the same problem because he tried to pick the lock on the other side of the gate rather than the lock on the side of the gate facing him.

Thanks for the reply, though I found out today that the problem was elsewhere..I was actually in the wrong sewer all the time! :) I still have trouble with the experience getting deleted, though..have you got any idea why that might be?

No clue, but the workaround would be to enable your console and use the command giftxp and the number of experience points you want to have in your exp pool.

Access your character sheet. There should be an option "Auto-Spend Points" or something similar on the lower right side; when checked, the game will automatically improve your character, though obviously not necessarily according to your wishes.
Check if that's the case with your game; sounds a lot like it.
If it's not: Congrats! you've probably found a new bug in the game. :p

The question remains, though - Does insight remove sanity, or will insight be given to the mad?"

That's true. I always assume that everyone has Auto-Spend turned off. :(

Thanks a lot for all your help..yes, auto-spend was the problem. When it's turned on, I can get more than 8 points of experience and it doesn't get deleted. But that's pretty stupid, isn't it, since you can't distribute the points the way you like. Is it deliberate, that the experience gets deleted when auto-spend is turned off?

I think you are mistaking it. When you turn it OFF, you can accumulate more than 8 points, but when you turn it ON, it probably spends the points for you on some ability costing 9 points (since you complain that it doesn't go above 8).

I can't really remember the interface, it's been awhile, but you might want to hover the mouse over it longer and check the description. I do believe that when it displays "Auto-Leveling ON" it actually means that it's OFF and you click on "ON" to turn it ON. Need to confirm this tho, my memory might be fritzing like a Malky.

Edit:
And to answer your question, not it is not deliberate. If it is being deleted, it is a bug.

Yeah, I guess I thought the auto-spend was on when it was actually off, 'cos it's not exactly logical the way it's labeled. Anyway, now I've won the game with all the different endings, yay! And I'm off to play something less scary, 'cos this just creeped me out..
