Underdark (Spoiler)

I am in the Mind Flayer dungeon in the underdark right now and am at the point where I have to gain control of a mind flayer and have them open the first door. The thing is though I cannot find another mind flayer. I have rested and rested countless times in all the rooms I can go in, but nothing ever shows up. Any ideas? Is it time to start over?

*The reason I think I need to start over is because my Autosave and Quicksave don't work. Every time I try to Quicksave or it goes to an Autosave point, BG2 just minimizes and says the save failed and asks if I'd like to quit. I have uninstalled the game and reinstalled it but it still happens like that. It doesn't minimize it everytime it Autosaves, but it still doesn't save all the way. It saves the correct picture of the save but the time always says Ch.1 Day 1 Hr.1. If anyone has any idea of what I should do here that would be awesome. Thanks in advance guys.

for me the mind flayers kept respawning from the pods so i always had a chance to put the thing on one I would suggest that you start from when u first entered the dungeon again but I cant help you with the second problem perhaps a faulty disk?

well you could check if your harddrive is full, it could prevent the game to save and just might prevent the flayer to appear
