Housing in Skingrad

Post by DaveTurd »

Greetings. I've played this game off and on since it came out - but only with one character, my level 44 Redguard Archer. I've slowly been buying houses in the various cities - I have houses in Bruma, Cheydinhal, Chorrol, Layawiin, and the haunted mansion in Anvil.

In any case, I've been slowly saving up enough dough to buy Rosethorn Hall in Skingrad. However, recently, I've been simply sleeping at Toutius Sextius's house on the same corner as Rosethorn, near the gate. I don't even remember how I first started going in there, but Toutius' body is on the floor upstairs, and I have his key, and every time I'm in town, I just stay there.

I started thinking maybe I don't even need Rosethorn Hall after all. I mean, I come and go as I please, no guard ever gives me a hard time - my only question is can I store stuff there without it simply disappearing? I can't be the first person to ever do this, so I was wondering if I can permanently consider it my house? Will any loot I stash there be safe? Will I ever be arrested or harassed? Will any of Toutius' relatives show up and kick me out? The bed let's me sleep in it, no problem, whereas other houses I break into, it says I "can't sleep while trespassing".

I suppose I should just give it a go and find out myself - just loot some caverns and leave some random junk in the chests and keep checking back, but I thought I'd ask here first. I'd hate to stash a bunch of rings in a chest or something and have them vanish.

Taking a chance

After a while, you have more gold than you can possibly spend. I bought all the houses that I could just to complete the quests. From other threads that I have read, you take the chance that you will lose your stuff if you put it in a house, chest or location that is not owned by you. Sleep there but I wouldn't stash anything important as it might not be retrievable. Hope this helps.

ring of gray Skingrad Palace

I've had 2 characters buy Skingrad house. Both times got great stuff' Ring of Grey is especially good ( multiple enchantments life seeing, sneak etc.5 or 6, I think). Plus hidden mini-quest and a maid, who makes a multi healing , fortifying "shepards pie", for you. And display cases and a balcony to jump off into the street. I'll buy it for every character when I get up to it (need 20 fame ,and after my level 51 became blind & retired, I only just started anew & she's only level 3). Look up what you get,I saved each time before I bought the upgrades & went and looked, so I only bought what I liked. I sure like that place. I get the Shack, Vile Lair, Dunbarrow Cove & Frostcraig Spire, but no other in town houses.

Thanks for the input.

I think the Rosethorn purchase "quest" (if you call it that) is bugged for me, or something. I though I read somewhere that you needed 250,000 gold to buy it, so once I accumulated that amount, I activated the quest. It tells me to talk to some guy, but the "green arrow" indicator leads me outside the gate, under the bridge to the castle, next to a tree...and no one is there.

Guess I'll nose around the FAQs and see whats up. I'd hate to incur the wrath of the admin by bringing up a problem that has been addressed elsewhere...
