Where to find dismissed followers?

Hi,
Is there any way to hook up again with a follower you dismissed? I kicked out some of them with important quest items (Ren'ar Skulls and lava stone). If no possiblet, how can I get these items again?

Well, I believe the followers go back to where they first hung around (ie Magnus will go back to the entrance of P Schuyler and Sons) unless it was a special event or you pissed them off (ala Dog and Chukka)

Don't know if they will still have the items on them though...

It varrys. One time I dissmissed Sog in Shrouded hills and he made a bee line for the bar but he stopped just out side, behind a tree, another time I dissmissed him inside the bar and he walked to where I originally picked him up, I then asked him back and he still had all the items I gave him, I dissmissed virgil in Shrouded hills one time and came back to the crash site days latter and he was there at our original meeting place with all the items I gave him.
