Then why, when he warned you, did Beckett mention that he had an 'inexplicable sensation' (that may not be his exact words)? It sounds to me like he was admitted that he was feeling the same 'discomfort' all of the other vampires native to L.A had felt since the arrival of the sarcophagus, and had started to suspect that the myth was true.
But the wording at the end implies that the taxi driver is not Caine, unless he enjoys speaking in third person and has poor grammar. Added to which, I can't see an independent like Jack taking orders from a nutty Malkavian (witness his reaction if your PC is a Malkavian!) And that doesn't explain how a Malkavian could inflict terror on all of the vampires in L.A.
If taxi driver is a Malkavian that thinks he's Caine why wouldn't he be speaking in the third person?
A Malkavian can't inflict Terror? Dementation Discipline, which might also work in getting Jack to do as the Malkavian wanted, or Jack is just chaotic enough to enjoy the idea of blowing up the Prince or whoever wants to open the Coffin...Who knows? I'm no expert on Vampire the Masquerade or anything but whatever
Just completed it myself aswell.
Think I share some of the same confusion as some of the others in here:
*Spoiler*
I got the Anarch ending and ended up giving Lacroix the key.
Never expected the explosive in there tbh, had just gotten so many warnings not to open it. And I am not sure when Jack could have replaced it. Seems to me he would have had to put himself inside the sarcophagus before it was put on the ship. As as far as I remember, when you report back to Lacroix after visiting the ship, you say something like, that it seems the sarcophagus had been opened from the inside. Which must have been Jack then, and who then slaughtered the crew.
Not sure when he could have put the explosive in there, since it was never in Anarch hands. Museum seems the best bet. But what if it was opened there before it got stolen?
Awesome game, but not sure I liked the ending that much. Seems to be to many holes that you can't account for.
Another thing, which has nothing to do with the ending.
The great mansion/skyscraber in Downtown with all those golden gargoyles statues around it. What was that all about? I was never able to go in there, and it just seemed like such an important building that it seemed strange that it wasen't used to anything, unless I missed it.
One idea I had is that vampire hunters put the explosives in the sarcophagus, and spread the rumours about the antedeluvian. That way, they set off a war between the various vampire factions, which is sure to wipe out a fair number of them, and the winner opens the box and gets blown to smithereens.
Should have kept my mouth closed till I knew what I was talking about. I hadn't realised that (spoiler) Spoiler
there was anything else in the sarcophagus with the explosives.
