How Guilds Mesh

Post by Lightning Rod »

I just completed the Fighters amd Mages Guilds quests. Now I find I've managed to mess up the Thieves Guild quests. I can't even join the Thieves Guild. Is there a good sequence to the Guilds to get most of the quests?

You've run into that fighter/thief problem, haven't you? I don't want to wreck it for anybody else, but yes: if you do the Fighters Guild first, then you will encounter a problem when you need to do the Thieves Guild quests. However, I don't know why you can't actually join the Thieves Guild. What did you do to piss them off?

You could try to solve matters by using the console. Hit the ~ key, then type:

pcjoinfaction thievesguild

Hit return. That should work: let me know if it doesn't. If it doesn't, try quotes around thievesguild, or even separating it into two words.

Myself, I always did the quests with mage and thieves guild first, then about halfway through, join the fighters.
To the Righteous belong the fruits of violent victory. The rest of us will have to settle for warm friends, warm lovers, and a wink from a quietly supportive universe.

THANKS - it worked with separate words and quotes :) :) I must have killed one of the thieves as part of another quest. I didn't realize (spoiler)
Spoiler
there were multiple NPC that can give you quests to get to the next level in that guild. Next time through I'll be more selective in what quests I accept.

Actually the problem was probably the Code book quest which Eydis Fire-Eye gives, it's a known Thieves guild breaker. I found that it's best to stop working for Eydis once that quest comes up, and haven't experienced any problems joining the thieves guild. You don't need her quests to get to the top of the fighter's guild anyway, so best to leave her after doing the Telvanni agents quest, if you want to join the thieves guild.

simple solution is to join the thieves guild as soon as you join the fighter guild.
you might want to stay away from the late fighter quests (vivec), as they ask you to kill the thieves guild quest givers. following true thieves guild honor: if they dont catch you it wasnt you who did it, you can steal sottildes code book without getting kicked

i believe cosadus also tells you to talk to the tel ahrun fighter guild leader if you dont trust an assignment

Thanx All
I've managed to get to gentleman Jim for his quests. I also checked the walkthroughs to see alternate ways to complete quests. I didn't realize there were 'good' and 'evil' alternatives. Alot is not obvious the first time through the game.

Asking in this thread since my question comes in response to this post:

As a new character how do I get to Tel Ahrun? It appears the silt striders I have access to are only on the western part of the map while I need boats to get to the NE part where TA is located. Should I go there as a level one/two character? Also, I was looking at the walkthrough that discussed some guild conflicts if I start taking the bounty quests...so want to stay away from that. However I don't recall meeting Cosadus or having him talk to me about "not trusting an assignment".

There isn't a fighter's guild in Tel Aruhn, I think the reference should have been to Percius Mercius, the Fighter's Guild quest giver in Ald-Ruhn.

However the easiest way to get to Tel Aruhn is indeed by boat (from Tel Mora), and there's no reason to avoid it at first level.
