stopping lightning bolt rebounding?

Post by Sensei »

Hi

I was wondering if it was possible to get a "fix" to stop the lightning bolt from rebounding - that is so annoying in a closed room with summoned monsters as they all turn hostile on you. Has anyone found a solution to fixing this spell?

The spell isn't broken. It's supposed to rebound.

The only ways to protect yourself from it is to wear the Cloak of Mirroring (only if you're the target) or the Cloak of Reflection. Protecting everyone from lightning can work too.
“The world breaks every one and afterward many are strong at the broken places. But those that will not break it kills. It kills the very good and the very gentle and the very brave impartially.”

I suggest you either stick to using it outside or embrace the chaotic nature of lightning.

there are boots of grounding available at the temple.

The joys of angling a good bolt rebound shouldn't be underestimated. In a narrow corridor filled with enemies, a well-placed lightning bolt or three can clear the decks. From that point of view, it's an extremely economical spell.
To the Righteous belong the fruits of violent victory. The rest of us will have to settle for warm friends, warm lovers, and a wink from a quietly supportive universe.

Ideally lightning isn't a spell you should use in party or casusalty filled situations. If you do want to use it I suggest getting a recharged wand of lightning and using that instead, although less powerful it fires 5 bolts simultaniously. Using a lightning wand saves your mage a spell slot. Most likely you've sold a lightning wand to someone in the Promenade after Irenicuses dungeon.

It can be a superb weapon if used wisely. Just ensure that those likely to be hit by a rebound have boots of speed or similar to get out of the way.
You can also use the rebound effect against those who use it by positioning yourself wisely.

Grim .. was just about to say same and read you.. 'get out of the way' might be too hard for the younger generation to understand.[a case of blinkered philistine pig ignorance..?] LOL [im 48]
All my tanks have speedboots[4, and hard worked for] [And main minsc] has cloak of mirroring or reflection dep on situ.
This IS what pause is all about.
What do schools teach these days ..?
Obviously common sense is not part of the curriculum. Reminds me of Wil E Cyote running in front of boulder.
