My thief has the HLA set snare. Whenever she tries to use it, I get the message `set snare failed`.
There are no enemies in the area. Any ideas, please?
Set Snare
it is not obvious, but the HLA set special snare i.e. spike, time or excploding trap depends on your character's set snare skill.
I assumed that it was an ability, but it is a capacity, which depends on passing the test. It never fails when you are over 100 and there are no enemies or too many other traps.

"All the world's a stage and all the men and women merely players"
Instead of just failing:
If there are enemies about the returned message would be along the lines of "Unable to set traps in front of enemies".
If there are already 8 (more or less) traps already set, then the returned message would be along the lines of "There are already a maximum number of set traps".
Certain traps can only be set once per map and needs to be triggered before you can set another of the same type. These return a messages similar to the max number set above.
Your case should be because of a very low set trap skill as suggested by the earlier posters. If you want to use traps reliably, you need to have a high set trap skill. I'm not 100% sure on this, but the skill seems to represent in % of success whenever you set a trap; even HLA ones.
