go to options set your settins more monster they will spawn faster and any time during the game you can turn it back to normalPlanet_Guardian wrote:I know the feeling. I have raised about half-a-dozen characters from levels 50 to 80, and yes, it takes forever when beating up on Moonbeasts. You must have a high level threshold for the insanity before you can kill ten's of thousands of enemies.
The game needs to spawn enemies continously with 200k to 400k more frequently. Drakes once in awhile, just doesn't cut it. I wouldn't mind having mini-bosses being spawned more often with groups of regular monsters. (Sort of like when a Visgoth...Zaur, Wylvan, or Urgoth Renegade gets spawned as a miniboss amongst its Thrall minions...except make this mini-boss more challenging than a firedrake and make it worth the while in ADV/EXP...say like 200k to 400k). That would be nice.
Also, is there anyway to spawn firebeast (Red Moonbeasts) in the Vale of Ruin...or was there only one of them in the entire game? I think it was worth a little more than 50k, but I can't remember as I was swarmed by those witches spraying posion clouds. Vale of Ruin is a good place to up your EXP/ADV...and get money. The Forbidden Lands is good (next to a fireplace) to earn EXP/ADV, as well as money and spellbooks. If you have a healthy supply of magic spells and your Scribe is at 12-15...then maybe you don't need fire places or more spells. In that case, I guess your done playing this game...because the challenge is gone.

Brimstone Beasts
@Planet_Guardian: There is more than one of the 'red Moonbeasts' around. They are called Brimstone Beasts. I was in the VoR for my Warwitch class quest, and while running around, trying to find Grenevulia (? on spelling) the Pox, I ran into two of them. I remember seeing them and running off in the opposite direction, cause I was a fairly wimpy mage/adept enchantress/battlemage at that time. When I say fairly wimpy, what I meant was that I had around 80-100-something HP, and I just wanted to beat the Pox and get out of there to get my class promotion.

too early?
I was level 18 before I killed my first fire drake.
I used a freeze arcane spell to get close to it. Then I continued to hit it with a medium axe that had ice strike, and beat it to death....it kept frozen pretty well. If it got a hit on me, I would pause, freeze it again, then melee with the ice axe. It didn't take long, however, like I said, I was level 18 at least (a lot of 10 skill levels and 60-70 on attributes).
Good luck!

i use ice swords and tank him and just heal the damage, no need to worry about pulls or any dodging, do use fire ward usually thou, ice make it hit the ground, u just got to get them to drop down intially or get up to them on a hill. and then ioce procs will pretty much keep them grounded. is way of done it most time, bow just takes to long, and im not much of a caster. like to pund them

Quickly defeat Fire Drakes easily
Just "Freeze" the damn things and hit em with a couple Stone Shards... if you have a decent level of Rune Magic (everybody wants to say don't bother with Rune cause most of em are broken, but that one spell has caused more damage for me than even cataclysm can.)
My War Witch/Celestial can kill a fire drake on hard mode without even having to bother with the fire ward. She just hits em with the Stone Shards twice, and they're done. At the time she was still fighting them, that character had a level 7 Rune Magic skill and a 75 intellect.
All in all, i must agree that the moonbeasts are more profitable... despite the fact that the drakes are worth so many adv points, if you put the game on hard with more encounters, you can fight moonbeasts all day long, three to six at a time... I used those damn blue cats to take all my characters' well beyond their requirements for whatever third tier class they wanted, long before they had even started searching for the Argalia of Eryldorn... if you take a character to around level 20 before leaving the elven lands, you can probably get em to level 50 before they complete the game.

opps, meant to post that info too... sorry... Dungeonlord, if you kill the three mother drakes in the nesting grounds, it seems to make drake spawning MUCH slower, but only in that particular area. i've found they'll show up in alot of other places though, especially in the vale of ruin.
I also found that if you try to shoot the mother drakes to death, you'll get into a bunch of other fights, cause it takes so long to shoot em down... this often includes more drakes.
After you've done away with the mothers, you can still find the drakes in the breeding grounds... just past the shrine, heading back toward Arindale, there's a hill with two trees on the other side. I found running back and forth between those two trees was about the best way to force the game to spawn a drake.

Hey, the only luck i've had with spawning drakes is leaving the far east (when facing all the nests) drake on her nest, and standing on the eastern slope next to the unoccupied nest that's foreword from the rest, but of coarse moving around without her seeing you. Sometimes a drake will spawn over the cluster of trees in the center of the nests if you have it set to at least 'normal' amount of enemies. That's about all I can conjure up right now. hope that helps!

Drakes can always randomly spawn in the breeding grounds, but there are some other monster types that might spawn instead, so you either get lucky or you don't. Also, at least on hard/more settings, killing the dragons that guard the eggs will cause random dragons to spawn a LOT less often in that area.
Drakes can also randomly spawn in the Forbidden Lands and Vale of Ruin areas, and if you're really lucky, one will spawn in the "general area around Arindale" (this includes Arindale itself, the Moonstone Island, most of the woodlands south of Arindale, the way to Ulm, and maybe more). Yes, that's quite a big area where drakes can spawn but I'd guess the chance to encounter one on the road to Ulm is something like 1:100 because there are a lot of other monster types able to spawn there.

i go for speed
when killing something i look for speed not chance of survival. for me i like to cast crystal ward of fire run straight into the middle of them and run around them to get them grouped then cast 3 or 4 cataclysms gets done in just a few secs. is faster if done in easy rather then hard difficulty.

there are two spots on the ridge just before entering the drakes lair where they get stuck and dont fire at you I myself usually up my archery to around 7 or 8 and just ping away until they die the necrotic bow or elven venom bow is the best for this method of course with the necrotic bow you really need level 11 archery to use it effectively
i just killed my first firedrake, was at the tower in the lake you gotta get marked by the spirit on top before you can get into the gates at the elven fortress. was level 8 or 9. took an hour of side rolls and pinging it with my short bow......freaking sucked. but that 360k exp was freaking awesome!!
