Crytek blames piracy for low sales of Crysis

Post by DesR85 »

Yet another developer to jump on the piracy bandwagon. And this is what Cevat Yerli, president of Crytek said:
"I believe that's the core problem of PC Gaming, piracy... PC gamers that pirate games inherently destroy the platform. Similar games on consoles sell factors of 4-5 more," he said in an interview with PC Play. "It was a big lesson for us and I believe we won't have PC exclusives as we did with Crysis in future. We are going to support PC, but not exclusive anymore."
What? Pirates destroying a platform? Might as well say the same for consoles since they too also have that exact same problem as well. When will they ever admit that their game brought it's own downfall?

At least id Software doesn't blame piracy for the shift to consoles...

I picked it up a while ago, played it once. Far Cry on the other hand I played dozens of times. Crysis adds very little that hasn't been done before, and what it adds has been done better by other games. I think the demo would have told that to anyone with a fleeting interest in the game. Crytek had an edge on the competition with Farcry, but they lost it. Tough for them if they can't acknowledge that.

Question is: If Crysis sold 1 million units, isn't that a mark that it is successful? Why bitch about it now? It's like they expected to sell more or something and blame piracy as a result of that. Just my hunch, though.

while i haven't played crysis, i will admit that i have switched over to the consoles. i used to be a solid pc gamer, but now i only have oblivion and sims2 on my pc. i don't want to get into the console vs pc debate. it just seems easier to play or gift a game without worrying about the latest hardware/settings/etc. messing it up. (which has happened to me a few times.)

i don't think that piracy is so much of an issue here.

other than graphics, the game is pure boredom.
Also, the game has some outrageous hardware requirements so why would anyone give $40 when they can't play it normally. Not everyone has Quads, GTXs, etc...
