i need help with a very powerful sword on how to get rid of it

Post by shadow_blade »

Sword of Kas was the mighty blade used by Kas the Bloody-Handed, the dreaded lieutenant of Vecna. It was by this blade, some say, that Vecna lost his Hand and Eye.

The sword, variously described as a short sword, longsword, or greatsword, was crafted by Vecna. The blade is said to have been magically honed to a razor's edge, enhanced the wielder's strength, and could be used to call down lightning bolts from any storm clouds that might be overhead. The sword itself is intelligent, possessing a vile and murderous spirit.

basically it is constantly trying to take me over and go after all of it previous owners and then vecna himself and since i am only a 4/4 rogue, assassin i dont think i have much of a chance. the sword it self has the following spells slay living, unholy and blasphemy fortuantly for me it has lareadu used slay living and has a week before it recharges so i need to get rid of it before then.
Does any one have any suggestions on how to do it

if you make your saves, you CAN just leave it behind.

its an artifact. disjunction will destroy it, and rob the casting mage of spellcasting power, pretty much forever, barring direct intervention of a god (not including wish spells)

artifacts further sometimes have specific instructions on how to destroy them

my gues however is that you'll get possessed by the sword before that

i can be wrong, and there can be other ways. anyone?

Haven't encountered this unfortunately....my current character is using a 'cursed' sword that has an ego score also but the solution to this would be merely the spell "Remove curse" and ping the sword falls free.....

Now quite sure with artifacts though...my suggestion would be to try this (can't hurt)...and if that doesn't work then either make a pact with another sufficiently evil creature that may be slightly more powerful than your current character...typically swords of this nature will willingly give themselves up for a more powerful owner...then once the sword is passed over get a wizard (in your group hopefully) to dimension door everyone away or just basically have an escape plan and fast....or just "run with it" and play an evil character....sword of KAS is a very powerful artifact and if the wielder works in unison with the sword then you may find yourself killing creatures "above your weight" so to speak (higher CR than the party average)....

Its worth thinking about.

....and to the DM that gave you this item at this low level....I would be very wary now of the adjusted level of your character now that he is wielding a very high level artifact...personally I think he has made an interesting situation but a harder job for himself to calculate the difficulty of any future challenges your party will face due to the sword.....

If I was you on the other hand I would just go with it.....my current character using the cursed longsword is just "rolling with the puches" and making the best of it and making it work for my character...sometimes it just means thinking a little more outside the square.

;)
I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhäuser gate. All those moments will be lost in time like tears in the rain. Time to die.

cheers guys for the suggestions i have thought about trying to run with the sword but it keeps on trying to dominate my charracter and i am starting to run out of potions that give me a boost in my will saving through (i need to roll 33 or higher each check) then my charracter get possesed. thats not the worst of it though according to the dm nerull has plans for me with the sword and veccna wants me dead and is sending powerful anti paladins at us. i have onlly come up with one solution we are currently in ravenloft castle and battle with Strahd but we found an interresstiing trap inside and illusion floor that only beings with high intellegence or know that the floor is illusionary can activate the trap which you in fall into a huge container of magical acid. my charracter found the trap last so he knows it is there so i was thinking of putting the sword into the acid as if anyone finds it the sword will come after me. another i have got from my party was seal it into the wall in the lower crypts. what do you think of these suggestions?

a sword like that wont be bothered by acid, and unless the tank is screened against divination, you can be sure someone will find it soon, and now the sword has a grudge against you. if you can actualy leave it, just do so

however, you might want to consider that the anti paladins are on its way now anyway, and they're not going to wait to ask silly questions like "do you still have the sword"

working with the sword would mean that you do as it wants, as long as it doesnt push you too agressively and lets you persue your own interests a bit

it's a traitors sword though, so dont trust it

only leave it behind when the sword has used the slay living ability, or you might refret it swiftly. the sword doesnt need a wielder to fight

worst case scenario, stab your character with it, and fall in the acid. Yes, your character is gone, but (probably) your DM will let you make another character at the same level, and 4/4 rogue assassin again. however that loses your character bio..... ignore this post, nevermind...

get a shovel and bury it as deep as posible. then high tail it outta there. or if it doesnt cause to much fear in the shopkeepers, sell it. worst case scenario you can hide it in a bundle of normal swords and sell the bundle
