A question about music

Post by Project-404 »

I have been trying to replace the music that plays when you enter combat by another tune.
I did this by trowing out the DANGER_01.ogg file out of the Sound map and replacing it with the tune which I have named DANGER_01.ogg
One problem: It's typed as an mp3 file, and not as an OGG file which is why I think the game doesn't play it when it normally should.
I've tried looking on the net on how to change the file type but found nothing, or perhaps I am terribly wrong altogether and this is a matter beyind my mortal comprehension...

If anyone knows anything about this matter, please post your knowlegde, I will be thankful for it.

Edit: Just did a search on OGG on the net, appears you can code the WIndows Media files into an OGG file, however the download source for the coding program fails to work, anyone knows where to get a OGG coder?

well,

I dont know much about music files..
I do know that all my attempts of converting them have failed in epic proportions... Like the complete inability of playing normal files :P
I advise not to mess with game music unless you can play the music files the game uses. :)

I also found that many sites offering free music/video converting software contain evil files. And I really mean MANY.
Playing on the PC:
The Witcher (Currently deïnstalled)
Fable TLC (Currently deïnstalled)
Oblivion + SI + all DCL

Like I've said: I have already made an experiment with replacing files, it's foolproof. After all they're simply sound files, I have played after making the failed attempt and the file integrated back as if nothing happend.
In the worst case I'll just re-install the game, my profiles will be saved anyway.

You're probably right about the evil files, that's why I'm asking on the forum if anyone knows a reliable site...

Well, you could try searching a site like Free Codecs. If you're looking to convert audio files, I did come across some audio conversion tools a while ago but they're not free.

I went to that site, and downloaded what seemed to be a converter. Followed the instructions (that is rightclicking ans 'install') and it seemingly worked. However I still have no idea how to convert normal audio files into OGG files... How did you do it?

You can refer to Video Help. That was the site I used the last time I convert audio files. Hope it helps.
