Started quest, I entered Roland's house found message and left and came back to it much later. Game does not recognize that I have message. Used walk thro to find cabin but Roland is not there, and First Edition ignores quest. Can I tweak console to restart or continue quest, and how please?

The only way I can think about resolving this is to load back to right b4 the quest. I have like 300 saves on my 360 cuz I don't wanna screw up haha. HOPE THAT HELPED!

You should have this entry in your journal:

After searching Roland's home, I've found a letter written to Roland from his girlfriend. It mentions a cabin where the two would meet. It's located east of the Imperial City in the Great Forest. I think this may be where Roland could be hiding. I should head out there immediately before he has a chance to escape.

If not you could try typing

SetStage MS23 50

into the console.
