Graphical Problem with icewind dale 2

Post by Kron84 »

As u see on the screenshot i uploaded i have som graphical problems. That makes it impossible for me to play ID2. If i change the configuration in the icewind dale II configuration utility to 16bit color depth and activate software BLT under 2D 16-bit color BLT modes the graphical problem goes away. But in return i get a new problem. Something that gives me heavy lag/low fps. And that makes it impossible to play also.

the game is patched to 2.01 and my system runs with XP, 8600 GT,3 GB ram and a AMD singlecore 2,2ghz.

I hope someone here can help

How about playing in 16-bit and NOT enabling Software BLT? Also, try changing your desktop colourdepth to the same as you're playing the game in.

Have you tried to update your videocard's drivers? Also, which version of DirectX do you have?

Hi there (My first post :) )
I am having the same problem as Kron84 here. I followed the advice already here and it didn't get rid of those damn massive boxes. It did, however, remove black boxes around dropped items. I could still use some help

Thanks in advance

I found the answer to the graphics issues using a geforce 8 series card here: IE games and NVidia Series 8 video cards - Spellhold Studios

Basically, what you need to do is: RightClick on desktop -> Properties -> Settings Tab -> Advanced Button -> Troubleshoot -> Lower Hardware Acceleration -> three notches from the max for example, None .--.--Y--.--.--. Full)

Remember to change the setting back when you are done with your IWD2 session.

Try running DXDIAG directly and disabling direct draw manually. Once again, remember to turn it back on when you're done.

OK I fixed this black box problem but now I got another one, all my load times take very long to load, say about 30 seconds or more. I know it shouldnt koz of my systme specs? Is this a problem with Vista, the game? is there a fix, really need help koz I load quick saves alot and its so frustrating it takes so long.

Yes definatly have a full install. Is my computer the problem? I dont know? but my specs are: E6600 @ 3.4, 8800GTX OC2, Raptor 150GB, 2GB A-DATA. Vista Ultimate x64

EDIT: OK I just realised that it is only my save games that take ages to load. When I am entering areas and such it is generally pretty fast, say only a few seconds to load, but any save game I load takes so long to load, like I said before about 30 seconds. Does anyone else have similar probs?

Go to Start, Run, type in DXDiag, press Enter, go to "Monitor/Screen/video" tab (I'm running a Dutch version, so I don't know the exact translation), and press the "Disable" button besides Directdraw on that menu.

I hope this helps.
