What alignment are the Githanki
As a roleplayer, I am wondering what the correct action is for a character of good alignment when faced with the Githanki. Do you give them the sword or not. I was feeling a bit guilty about saying no to them, but then got attacked by anti-paladins. Does this mean that they are evil? If so wat is a good character to do? You don't want such a powerful weapon in the hands of evil beings, but the kind thing to do would be to give it to them. So firstly what alignment are they. Secondly what action should you take. Obviously there is no problem if you are evil. You just do what is to your own advantage.

Any evil alignment, though there's an affinity for law.
In general terms: Stopping a Githyanki warparty, even from retrieving a sword that belongs to them, is what a person guided by conscience would do. The Githyanki trust noone and seek the downfal of all races afaik.

I really don't get it WG, you have qualms about a good person giving the silver blade to it's rightful (if evil) owner, but have no qualms about having Crom Faeyr, that's completely contradictory to me.

He can't be Lawful Good, would a LG person make a live sacrifice to Demogorgon, the Chaotic Evil Demon Prince? I think not, he must be Chaotic.

A LG person might conceivably make a live sacrifice of an evil creature to enable the summoning and killing of an even more-evil creature, like a Demon Prince. Maybe.galraen wrote:He can't be Lawful Good, would a LG person make a live sacrifice to Demogorgon, the Chaotic Evil Demon Prince? I think not, he must be Chaotic.
(Actually, now that I've typed it, that does seem like a stretch. I'm not sure even I personally believe my argument)

I am actually chaotic good alignment. I would have difficulty with Lawful Good in real life as nowadays the government are passing so many immoral laws. However, I wonder (a) if I were of lawful good alignment, would it be out of character to dominate one of the denizens and cause them to be sacrificed? (b) Would it work?
I'm afraid that I had no idea what the alignment of the demogorgon was. I suppose that I should have been able to guess. Still as Drizzt has just told me, we all make mistakes.
As I am thinking of installing the Saerileth mod, I also wonder what would happen if I behaved in the same way. Anyone know?

Judging by the way she reacted just walking into that area leaves me to suspect she'd walk out on you at the very least. Given that she won't even allow the Ring of Gaxx into her back pack, it would be in character for her to actually attack you, whether she'd go that far I don't know though.wise grimwald wrote:As I am thinking of installing the Saerileth mod, I also wonder what would happen if I behaved in the same way. The Saerileth Mod "solves" the dilemma for you. Saerileth is the Chosen of Tyr. Consequently, she has a tendency to attract the attention of Tyr's enemies. When you approach the shrine, she immediately realizes that she has stepped into the domain of Demogorgon--a place in which Tyr cannot protect her--and she warns you to get the party out of there immediately before the Prince of Demons detects her presence. But the warning comes too late, and Demogorgon sends his minions (the Demon Knights) to kill Saerileth and everyone who is with her. (I don't care what anyone says, they're a tough group of monsters.) So you see, there's no need to make a sacrifice to Demogorgon to make them appear.wise grimwald wrote:I wonder (a) if I were of lawful good alignment, would it be out of character to dominate one of the denizens and cause them to be sacrificed? Saerileth will object if you pick up Soulreaver, just as she objects if you keep the Ring of Gaxx. If you hand it to her, she will destroy it (or rather, Tyr will destroy it through her).
On the other hand, she has no objection if you loot the Girdle of Frost Giant Strength from the corpse of the Demon Knight. It's just a coincidence that one of the components to make Crom Faeyr is in the possession of a creature who won't appear unless your character commits a morally questionable act or unless Saerieth is in your party.
That never happened when I went there with Saerileth Vondonu, I guess I didn't hang around in there long enough. Once my girlfriend said her piece we hightailed it out of there, that'll teach me to let a girl make the decisions!

Thanks a lot. It sounds like fun. Now I've got Crom Faeyr however, I seem to be a bit overpowered. Shame about that. Maybe I'll have to b a bit more Gung Ho in battle.VonDondu wrote:The Saerileth Mod "solves" the dilemma for you. Saerileth is the Chosen of Tyr. At least in 3rd and 3.5 edition, Githyanki are Chaotic Evil, and share a mutual bond of contact with red dragons.
Given the common attitude of take & plunder, namely with how they act very hostile towards the protagonist's party ever so often, I say this makes sense. They hatch somewhat-haphazard schemes, attack, and take what they want on a moment's notice. Also (highlight for spoiler)

Spoiler
If the player takes the blade to the "sword of holies"/vorpal sword, the Githyanki act without properly strategizing to get it back (and more than likely fail at reobtaining it if by force).
