An attempt at aim d&d

Post by Ribzlibz »

many time has such an idea been thought of but not carried out. i hope this thread wont end the same way. first, pm me here, post here, or pm my aim (ribzlibz) with your person to join. second, if possible i dont wanna be dm. third,
the dm (or whever wants to be it) must have a campaign idea. finally, we must decide on a weekly time to meet.

There's no need to create another thread with the exact same post. This will do just fine.

Although, in the past Buck and some other mods have been iffy about posting a link to even just another forum (mine to be specific), so you might want to edit that out and just put the link in your signature, just to be safe.

The forum link in my sig also has a D&D forum (Let's Role), but the games have wound down a bit due to DM busy-ness. If you wanted to start your own game, you're welcome to though.

It's difficult to set up a campaign without DMing, it has to be said. If you read the Order of the Stick, their forums have a large number of campaigns starting at any one time.

Just a thought, but wouldn't MSN be better suited to such a thing than a forum? It allows for more interaction with less delay.
I might be pursuaded to DM. Either a replay of my campaign (Based mainly on a lot of Plane travelling, with the old 2nd Edition Cosmology, but 3.5 rules of course) for my friends (Which you probably haven't played, since I didn't see you at the table), or one of the published Eberron adventures. If nobody really is intrested in Eberron, I'm willing to do something else. Preferably some published adventure, since I don't really have time to write out a whole new campaign and I trust you'll be mature enough to go read the adventure beforehand.

But it relies on everyone being online at the same time.

True, true. But don't those forum games take forever? Anyway, my offer stands.

Combat can be sped up by getting everyone to post 3 rounds at a time.

And, while I'd normally be interested, I play in 3 (possibly with 2 more) campaigns and DM another, so I don't have much time to contribute.

An MSN chat session would require everyone to be online at the same time, but basically retains the same "in-person sessions" pacing of the game. I've tried to join one of these once, but it never really got started up due to various reasons similar to setting up a "in-person sessions" game.

Forum games tend to move slow, and while the 3 round thing helps a little, combats still take a long time and the pacing is very much different than what in-person/chat sessions would. The people need to be even more dedicated and spend time rechecking to keep the pace strong. As I understand it, many games die and deteriorate due to poor player and subsequently DM response. It does have the one thing going for it, that of being easier to find players being that players from the other side of the world can join without the necessity of mediating a common session time.

Unfortunately, I prefer forum based posting, even if it takes longer. So if you're doing an instant messaging version, I resign from this game.

I'm quite game either forum or MSN if there's still slots.
Being on GMT+8 kinda sucks when the majority I've been exposed to basically live on GMT-5 to GMT+0.

Will register to Ribzlibz's link board to check it out...

GawainBS: Dumb question, sorry if it's already somewhere. How do I take up your offer? Do you except non experienced players?

Well, if enough people are intrested, we could start the game either here or at Ribzlibz' forum.
All players are welcome.
Forum or MSN doesn't matter to me, I simply haven't played either of them. I understand the trouble is would be to get everybody online at the same time.

Well, as mentioned that's an advantage of forums... no same time online requirement. As long as everyone posts regularly, maybe 1-2 times a day it should keep things going. The interaction would not be as fluent as not everybody will be there to respond, so I guess players would have to improvise a little more...

A forum sounds a lot better. For instance, I'm living in Belgium and no doubt there will be Americans, which means we have a potential time difference of 10-12 hours?

I've registered there, but I'm not going to start right away, since I'm in the middle of exams now. I'll try to put up a thread with houserules, campaign ideas, etc. so people who are intrested can start thinking about it.
