Mage based Warrior
I would rather be a mage based warrior so i can have the balance of beging a character with strong magic attacks but at the same time have a good strength because in battle i can heal myself if fighting hard difficulty monsters and the warrior part of the character which gives me the strength to kill of those high difficulty monsters quickly in some cases.

Gosh, a resurrection thread!
I like to sneak. I like to have a lot of muscle. I like to have a lot of magica. So...
High elf for the Magica. Warrior birthsign to give a bit extra to STR and END.
A Stealth class, with Int and Will boosts.
Major skills:
Blade
Alteration
Mysticism
Restoration
Acrobatics
Security
Sneak
I never put Illusion or Alchemy into Major Skills because I use 'em too much (Chameleon/Invisibility spells, and nice poisons and healing potions)
But Armourer is good for Major Skills in place of one of the magics - probably Restoration - so that you can get to level 50 in the skill quickly and be able to repair magical weapons and any armour you might want to wear. Personally, all my char's use Shield-enchanted clothing (various types).

Having recently played a mage, and found the game far too esy, I'm now playing a Dumer Warrior, Lady birthsign
Marksman
Athletics
Blade
Block
Blunt
Restoration
Heavy Armour
Already ninth level and I have hardly done anything other than complete the Kvatch quests. I have spent some time in the Arena though, just made it to Hero.
My solution to Armourer/Endurance has been to purchase 5 SPs, then block and slash. Endurance is now 89, Armourer 51.
Life is about to get a lot tougher though.

I've played warriors with destruction skill to blow stuff up, and I've played thief/assassin types with illusion to charm people and sneak invisibly and restoration to compensate for mediocre battle skills, but I'm just now playing a pure mage for the first time. I knew it would take a while to figure out the right tactics to be a successful mage and I didn't want to be running into things that would kick my butt while I was still on the learning curve, so I made the skills I didn't plan to use very often my majors.
Breton, Atronach birthsign
Armorer
Blade
Blunt
Heavy Armor
Alchemy
Light Armor
Marksman
Atronach birthsign takes some getting used to, but it probably would have been even harder to adjust if I hadn't just spent a few months playing Morrowind (it wasn't as much of a shock to see my magicka meter just sitting there not regenerating with time). Anyway, it's almost like a completely different game. Coolest thing is, for the first time ever I actually have enough magicka to cast Fingers of the Mountain!

Can the answer to this question be "No"?

But isn't that spell just totally useless?Belthan wrote: Coolest thing is, for the first time ever I actually have enough magicka to cast Fingers of the Mountain!
Anyway, I always play a pure mage with all the magic skills. I've installed a mod which makes all my skills level 5x more slowly and now I'm leveling at a reasonably rate. Before, I would hit lvl. 15 after plundering only about 7 dungeons.
I like to play very slowly. I usually walk everywhere and try to enjoy the scenery, and I never use fast travel (so I have to plan out my trips). It's really wonderful.

Fingers of the Mountain is quite decent, actually, provided you obtain it at an early enough level. If I don't do Mage Guild Quests until I'm over level 10, I don't bother with it; but under level 10 you get a decent, usable spell. If you are a High Elf Mage, with Apprentice birthsign, you will have enough magica to cast it if you get it above level 10, but it's better to get it before level 15, even so.
If you are a class/race with little magica, don't bother at all.

I'm in agreement with lifeishell91 on Finger of the Mountain, it's useless. Weak and relatively expensive to cast, you can get a far bigger bang for your buck making your own spell.
Unless you get the alternate version that is, and I don't know how to get that, or how to get enough magaicka to cast it. It's hideously expensive but insanely powerful, the 1st level version does 15 damage in 100ft area up to 210 damage in a 100ft area at 20th level but even the weakest cost a base 561 magicka to cast.

Well of course marksman, beacuse lets say you see a hard enemy, and you don't wanna fite up close cause he'll kick your a** , with great sneak, you can own him or her in a dark cave, behind a tree, in a inn, or other places.
Chuck Norris doesn't read books, he just stares them down until they give him information.

After much consideration and many failed games, I prefer a marksman with a healthy mix of magic (Destruction/Mysticism). Marksman offers perks that are majorly effective in caves etc. But if you dont have a good video card/slow comp, marksman skills tend to go down the drain because of lag in a major battle.

Good Guy:
Fighting-Knight(Nord,or Imperial)
Magic-Mage(High Elf)
Bad Guy:
Dark Magic-Sorcerer(Dark Elf)
Dark Fighter-Assassin(Argonian)
To get the most out of the game choose High Elf Mage, concentrate on magic first, then fighting abilities.

I am currently traveling through cyrodiil.I'm exploring Lost Boy Caverns, after I'm done there I am heading over to Bravil' mage's guild to join the guild.
Most of the time I play as a Dunmer thief with some warrior in him. However so far in my most current file I decided to try something new and so I am a Breton with The Mage birthsign.
Custom class: Bounty Hunter(it's what I name all my custom classes)
Armorer
Light Armor
Blade
Block
Illusion
Restoration
Destruction
However I am insanely powerful even on the highest difficulty of the game and so it gets kind of awkward at times when I literally face 3 Storm Atronachs and an Xivilia and beat them all without losing more than 30 HP.
I'm currently Level 34 and use all Morag Tong armor but with the BladeTurn Hood from the Mehrunes Razor expansion.

Hm. I always use a hood for my chars - first thing I create - only it is of Night Eye, so I can always see my way in the dark. I really HATE not being able to see all the way across a dungeon to spot where the arrows are coming from!
Yeah, I know there are perfectly good torches (but they don't light up very far) and very good light spells - but they make you more visible, not good for a Stealth char. An item of constant Night Eye is, imo, the most useful item you'll ever possess.
Almost equally useful is an item with a strong Detect Life enchantment; The Cowl of Nocturnal is good because it has a decent Feather enchantment as well.
