Can't get promoted in the Mage Guild

Post by Lunan »

First I completed everything required by spymaster Caius Cosades, was promoted to “operative”, received his black shirt and pants, etc. Then I started to work ob the Mages quests. But, after completing everything for Edwinna Elbert and Skink’s quests, I still cannot get promoted in the Mage’s Guild.

Any one have any idea what I need to do to get promoted. Or, did I do something that I should not have done, if so, what do I need to do to straighten thing out? Or, where did I go wrong? Thanks

If memory serves there are also stat requirements for promotions in Morrowind. That really was a nice feature. I don't remember them, but the UESPWiki should be of help to you.

You still have 2 quest givers in Balmora and 1 in Vivec to do quests for. Links here.

I am currently at level 18 and Apprentice. To advance to next rank, Journeyman I need Intelligence of 30; I have 60; I need willpower of 30; I have 52.

I need one additional skill at 20. My lowest skill, Luck, is 40. I seem to meet all requirements for advancement but no one will promote me. How come?

Luck isn't a skill it's an attribute. You need a magical skill at 20, like alchemy, enchant, restoration etc.

As Greg noted. You must have 20 in one of these: Alchemy, Mysticism, Illusion, Alteration, Destruction, or Enchant.

If you don't have that, the best way to acquire it in Mysticism, Illusion, Alteration, or Destruction, is to make a one-point cost version of some spell from that school. Then keep firing it off.

There's something not right here. To have achieved 60 Intelligence and 52 Willpower and not have one of the requisite skills at 20+ is darned near impossible.

Could you tell us your Race, Class, attributes and current skill levels Lunan? It would make it a lot easier to troubleshoot if we knew what we were working with

I always thought you had to do Ajira's quests first or Edwina Elbert.

What mages guild quests have you done. You need to be conjurer+ to complete Edwina's quests, and wizard+ to complete Skink's.

Good point, Galraen. Lunan, if your Intelligence and Willpower are very high because of items you have or potions you've taken, those don't count when trying to move up in a guild. The required stat levels must be natural, without artificial effects.

Must have been because of other factors. Now when I look, I am at Evoker level with will power of 30 and Intelligence of 30.

Memory is not what it used to be so I sometimes forget to come back and review answers to my questions. But I want you to know I really appreciate the great responses and support you all provide. --Lunan
