Wizards & Warriors

Post by GawainBS »

I always thought this game had its own forum here, together with Wizardry.
Anyway, my copy from Amazon.co.uk is going to arrive soon and I've been looking around for some guide explaining stats and class. Not the casual, shallow, description you commonly find in manuals, but hard numbers. I was also looking for some advice on classes and races. The guides at Gamefaqs offer party suggestions, but they generally don't explain WHY to take a particular class.
Googling for fansites didn't result in anything useful. Mostly reviews and pages about the (apparent) tv-series.
So, my question is: do you know of any fansites/fora that provide details to the innerworkings of Wizards and Warriors?

Thanks in advance!

I think the only websites dedicated to the game are ours and the one at Ironworks. I still intend to get a W&W walkthrough up one of these days...

I've never understood why this game was so poorly received by the press, I thoroughly enjoyed it personally.

Word of warning Gawain the start can be very daunting, I lost count of how many times I got my derriere well and truly kicked as soon as I exited the town gate. Just remember the old and very true saying, 'He who fights and runs away.........".

Thanks for the warning, Galraen. I live by that adage ever since MMVI.
I'm honoured the big man himself answered my question. :)
The forum at Ironworks has some info, I see.

Thanks for the link.

Since I got a whole new question, I'll make a new post.
If I understand my manual correctly, every character can become a specialist, as long as you take care to fullfill the necessary quest? I read that a single quest can be fulfilled by several characters.
Or can only one character attain each specialist? (i.e. only 1 Valkyrie, Assassin and Zen Master, or is a whole party of Zen Masters possible?)

Thanks in advance!

You can have the whole flock of Valkyries if you wish.

In fact every character can become every class Gawain, some quests can be completed multiple times, but by no means all of them.

Best of luck Gawain, keep us posted, I've given up having tried everything I could think of, it'd be nice to be able to play it again.

Galraen, I think this should solve your problem.
I still can't run the game. I tried to install it under Win95 with VirtualPC, but that didn't recognise my CD drive, so I couldn't even install Win95.

Thanks Gawain, but I already tried their suggestions (at least the ones I could) and none of them worked.

I tried installing it and running in Win95 compatability mode in Vista. Guess what? It works. I checked every option for compatability, save the bottom two.
The game is a bitter disappointment, though. Clunky interface, godforsaken controls, aweful combat system.

Curious, I never had any problem with any of those things, could it be that it may be working, but not working properly?

I have to admit that I don't have a manual, since I bought it from the Xplosive series.

Usually the manual is included as a .PDF file somewhere on the media. I never heard the Xplosive titles shortchanging in that regard, but I only have one game from them(StarLancer) that does not really require a manual. I thought there was a way to go into turn-based mode for W&W just like MM6(which I assume you've completed) with one of the keys. That may be helpful.
I'd rather be part bull than a complete sheep.

I hope so. The real-time combat I experienced didn't really work out very well...
I'll search through the CD again.
BTW, I also got StarLancer from them. ;)

There definitely is a way to change between Real-Time and Phased-Time (as the manual calls it), its the T key, this toggles between the two.

My game (CD version) cam with an on-line manual, as well as a paper one, which is fortunate as I've lost the paper one in my travels. So yours should also have one Gawain.
