alignment change bug? SPOILER?

Post by densorteengel »

OK, I have been hrough the Nine Hells, and yes, I have - knowingly and on purpose- taken the "wrong" path, as I wanted to play my character - Neutral Good Fighter/Cleric- as evil later on, so I exported her while she was changed. BUT alas - when I went through Irenicus' dungeon and finally finished it, thinking I would start the whole game in all-evil-style, when I get to the ending, and out of the dungeon,- the game crashes?????? Is that normal? How do I fix that? It's really annoying, that.. btw, the game - when told to import a created character - it still says that she is neutral good? But when the game has started, it reads neutral evil? Bug? Help? Please?

The alignment change that is caused by the Hell trials does not change the alignment you selected on your character record; it is put into effect by a special modifier. I don't know if I could explain it any better than that. But what you are seeing is perfectly normal. The character records says your character is Neutral Good, but in the game, your character is changed to Neutral Evil.

I suggest that you use Shadowkeeper and edit your character. Either remove the modifier (I think it's on the "Affects" page) or change your character's alignment to Neutral Evil on the "Characteristics" page.

That will straighten out your character, but I don't know if that will stop your game from crashing. You might try deleting all of the files in your TEMP directory and the CACHE directory--that sometimes helps.

Just download ShadowKeeper, you can't really play BG2 without it.

What problems are you having with Shadowkeeper? Exactly, as in: I installed it like this, when I click that, this happens, etc.

Well, I didn't have any problems installing it, but every time I tried to change something it doesn't work.. And my computer crashes the game.. I tried the alignment change as someone said above, game still crashes.. And I was really looking forward to playing that character for the second time  Also, I'm a real chicken when it comes to changing things in that way, it took me well over three years before I even dared opening the CLUA console.. Wich of course also went horribly wrong the first many times  (I really have a natural abbility of misspelling things so that I end up with cursed things  )
But I was also just wondering, since the readme file warns about so many things, what kind of colours does the game accept when altering the appearence? (skin, hari, and especially the armor colours, I get SO jelous when Minsc get one of the great plates on and looks greenish/blueish in it, and when I wear it it just looks boringly grey..

At what point in the game did you export your character, whilst still in the Nine Hells or in Throne of Bhaal?

Are you still carrying all the equipment you had when you exported the character, and if so have you tried dumping everything before exiting Chateau Irenicus?

What sort of system are you using? CPU, Windows platform, RAM, etc. And what are you running in the background while playing BG2? All of us have some memory-resident programs going, but combinations with some applications or games can cause problems. For example, I tried using Forcefield, and it kept giving my blue screens of death. Turns out it was allergic to a virtualizer I had, even when it wasn't running. If you've got a viruschecker, try turning off its realtime mode before playing or editing, and see if that helps.

I exported her from the Nine Hells, as I wanted to finish my character in the good way through ToB first. Oh well, maybe it's just the gamefile itself, who knows.. I sure don't..
As to the whole CPU RAM and so on.. I seriously have NO idea... I'm actually not sure about what it is...? But I do know that I have absolutely nothing running in the background, my AntiVirus is shut down every time (as it seriously slows the game down a LOT), and I have nothing else that is able to "run" anywhere.. AFAIK..

There are a few things that I do whenever these sort of problems occur.
Firstly, check that your disc is clean.
Second, if nothing else seems to sort it, try re-installing.

If you have a previously saved game before you had your alignment change(e.g. autosave), you could go back to it and either continue from there or export from there.

What about my questions regarding equipment?

I am running a full install, so the disc thing shouldn't be a problem.. Just tried reinstalling the whole lot, so I'm going to have to try once again I guess..
The Autosave is way too late I'm afraid :( (As I'm usually playing at least five different characters at a time, making new ones as I grow tired of the old ones.. )

Oh, I didn't see that about the equipment.. Err.. I actually think that I do... Well, off to see if it changes everything :) :)

Crossing my fingers here...
