Can i combine a sword wielding kensai with a priest?

Post by Drunkside »

I take the first say 11 levels of kensai and go for shotr swords, then i want to dual class with a priest that is unable to wield a sword. Will i lose the ability to use them even if i have huge amounts of weapon skill?

And By the way i just installed BG2 and the expansion, though im not sure which of them is the exp set... So the point is that i have the expansion set as well, they came in a gamebox.

you will lose the ability to wield shortswords.
Right Speech has four aspects: 1. Not lying, but speaking the truth, 2. Avoiding rude and coarse words, but using gentle speech beneficial to the listener, 3. Not slandering, but promoting friendliness and unity, 4. Avoiding frivolous speech, but saying only what is appropriate and beneficial.

Cleric ethoes forbid the usage of pointed or bladed weapons. There is only one exception, the Staff Spear, but it is still considered to be a Staff, and not a Spear. Besides, your better option is to dual your Kensai to a Mage, because a Kensai will not gain much from Clerical buffs, while defensive and offensive wizard buffs will help him a lot. And another thing, dual at lvl 13, because you'll get an additional 1/2 atk per round and an additional Kai ability. And of course, dualling to Mage will not forbid the usage of swords.

Ok but isnt mage only able to use daggers? The levels were just an exeption, but ill dual class at the level 13 if you think its good... And mages use intelligence for casting right?

The only restrictive classes(refering to weapons) are Cleric and Druid. Thus, any combination of dual or multiclass which includes Cleric or Druid will be subject to weapon restriction. Druids(even fighter-druids) can use only Clubs, Scimitars, Spears, Daggers(including throwing ones), Darts, Quarterstaves and Slings.

The other class combinations have no restrictions. For instance, a single-class Thief has limited weapon access, while a multi or dualled F/T will have access to all weapons which a fighter can use. And a Kensai/Mage(after you get back your Fighter levels) will be able to use all weapons available for the Kensai, with the restrictions of the Kensai kit(no missile weapons whatsoever, including sling and dart).

There's little point to playing a Kensai/Cleric. The cleric is already pretty awesome all by itself, being able to wear good armor and cast decent spells.

Kensai/mage/Thief perhaps spoilerish

I`ve played with many mixtures and am thinking of the above (via Shadowkeeper).
Has any one done this and were there any problems? I use the hardest settings but I`m going to start thinking about the add-ons that make the game harder.
I usually do SOA on my own and pick up a romantic interest in TOB.
I frequently use Jaheira cos her romance is so convoluted and worth a lot of points if she gets her badge.
