Hurray I've got Deder and co back in Tutu[Spoiler]

Post by wise grimwald »

After having great problems getting Deder and Co. back into my party after leaving Candlekeep, I have developed a new exploit to do so, very similar to the old one in ToSC. The old method just needed tweaking a bit. If anyone else missed them as much as I did, jut ask and I will let you know how to do it.
Sorry, I've just disovered that it doesn't work properly. They are in my party, but left behind, presumably at Candlekeep, maybe in limbo, so I cannot get their belongings, I cannot use them as part of my party, they won't leave my party and I cannot move to another area as I cannot my party together.
Anyone have any ideas?

Sorry, It's Deder, not Deter. Until I did some browsing, I had no idea what you were talking about I'm afraid. In case you hadn't realised it a long time ago, Deder is my favourite NPc in BG1.

I've never heard of Deder, but I guarantee Deter is better. ;)

Since you don't know, Deder is one of the party you meet in the training room in Candlekeep. You can get him and the rest of the party to join you using an exploit in ToSC, but not in Tutu. I thought that I'd managed to get them to join me in Tutu, but it didn't work. They are all quite powerful for that stage of the game, so if you want to get them to join you in the vanilla game, do a search on Deder and there are threads about how to do it.

Ahhh, yes. Now I know. I've read of that exploit, but never actually tried it. I remember some of those characters being waaaay too powerful (like the Thief had unbelievable skills, ect.). I never used them because I also remember reading that they don't say anything in the game except their selection sounds.

Now, if only they had an NPC bard with a German accent who danced named Deter... ;)

You can get them to join, just for their equipment, plate armour, small shield+1, wand of the heavens, oil of speed etc. Deder is indeed an excellent thief. The others have bonus spells which they lose when you level up, so they are powerful, but not megapowerful. Take Deder with you to Durlag's tower at the beginning of the game, and your character will zoom up in level, even if you leave him with the merchant out of harm's way.
I don't know if it's a mod that I am playing, but without trying to do the exploit, they came up to me and asked to rejoin my party. Of course I said yes, but it broke the game. You can only continue, if you say goodbye before leaving Candlekeep.
