Consider yourself lucky Der Daigen that you have at least found it once, most people are not so lucky, sure it hurts but it is better to hurt then to feel nothing at all.
You don't know the situation. I'm not talking about just a breakup. Not something where the guy just left or I left him, or we decided mutually it would be better to split up. It was much more severe than that. And that's all I'm going to say about it
As far as feling nothing at all, I like that option. It looks good to me. Where are the pod people? I want in

*AN offers to share his whiskey with Der, maybe the booze will kill the brain cells that are hurting her. It certainly has for himself. *
Welcome to the legion of the pod people, the secret to joining is just pure alcohol.

A combination of Patsy, the virtual Half & Half, and AN's generously-offered virtual whiskey has dulled my brain to the point of numbness. I decide to play BG 1 for a while. Killing things with a chaotic evil character, to take the edge off. I think I'll listen to some Melissa Etheridge while playing.

OK, Der-draigen, here's my contribution: Chris Isaak's "Graduation Day."
Driving slowly, watching the headlights in the rain.
Funny how things change.
Thinking of the good times wishing you were still with me.
The way it used to be, graduation day.
Watching the stars fall, a million dreams have all gone bad.
Think of all we had.
I knew it all then, thought you loved me I was wrong.
Life goes on, graduation day, oh, graduation day.
Thinking of a time when everything was right.
Thinking of a time with only you and I.
Makes me sorry that it had to end that way.
Learned my lesson now there's nothing left to say,
graduation day, oh graduation day.
Thinking of a time when everything was right.
Thinking of a time with only you and I.
Makes me sorry that it had to end that way.
Learned my lesson now there's nothing left to say,
graduation day, oh graduation day.
Oh graduation day.
Ah! Hand me that Paulaner, and forgive me if I am not in a chatty mood.

So does one have to be bitter as well as twisted to join this thread?...or will knowing the meaning of the above, and having a willingness to share a smooth malt qualify?

'Late September Dogs' by any chance?

Though 'Bring Me Some Water' has an energy that will encourage you to hit harder!

Hmm...I think this song fits the mood.
Countin' Flowers On The Wall
I keep hearing
you're concerned
about my happiness
All that thought
you're giving me
is concious I guess
If I were walking
in your shoes,
I wouldn't worry none
While you and your friends
are worried aobut me
I'm having lots of fun.
Countin' flowers on the wall,
that don't bother me at all,
playin' solitaire til dawn
with a deck of fifty one,
smokin' cigarettes and
watchin' Captain Kangaroo,
now don't tell me
I've nothin' to do.
Last night I dressed in tails
pretended I was on the town.
As long as I can dream
it's hard to slow this swinger down.
So please don't give a thought to me,
I'm really doin' fine.
You can always find me here
and having quite a time.
Countin' flowers on the wall,
that don't bother me at all.
Playin' solitaire til dawn
with a deck of fifty one.
Smokin' cigarettes
and watchin' captain kangaroo,
now don't tell me,
I've nothin' to do.
It's good to see you,
I must go,
I know I look a fright,
anyway, my eyes
are not accustomed
to this light.
And my shoes
are not accustomed
to htis hard concrete,
so I must go
back to my room
and make my deck complete.
Countin' flowers on the wall,
that don't bother me at all.
Playin' solitaire til dawn
with a deck of fifty one.
Smokin' cigaretes and
watchin' captain kangaroo,
now don't tell me,
I've nothin' to do.
Now don't tell me...
I've nothin' to do...

More Isaak
@Der-draigen: Glad to hear that BG helped your attitude a but. Check out Isaak's apocalyptic "End of Everything."
This is the end of everything, this is the end I know.
This is the end of everything, take your love with you when you go.
This is the end of happiness, this is the end dreams.
This is the end of everything, it's the end for you and me.
I don't know, what to do.
In my heart I still love you.
I don't know, what to say.
I will always feel this way.
This is the end of everything, this is the end I know.
This is the end of everything, take your love with you when you go.
Oh...
That guy is such a hoot! I don't know where he comes up with his stuff, considering he is rich, good-looking, and famous!

Maybe he has poor, ugly, unknown people writing for him?

Gwalchmai, you may just have something there! Do you have any songs you would like to contribute to our Kareoke of Despair?

U2
Walk On
And love is not the easy thing
The only baggage you can bring
And love is not the easy thing
The only baggage you can bring
Is all that you can't leave behind
And if the darkness is to keep us apart
And if the daylight feels it's a long way off
And if your glass heart should crack
And for a second you turn back
Oh no, be strong
Walk on
Walk on
What you got, they can't steal it
No, they can't even feel it
Walk on, Walk on
Stay safe tonight
You are packing a suitcase for a place none of us have been
A place that has to be believed to be seen
You could have flown away
A singing bird in an open cage
Who will only fly, only fly for freedom
Walk on, walk on
What you've got they can't deny it
Can't sell it, can't buy it
Walk on, walk on
Stay safe tonight
And I know it aches
And your heart it breaks
And you can only take so much
Walk on, walk on
Home...hard to know what it is if you've never had one
Home...I can't say where it is but I know I'm going home
That's where the hurt is
And I know it aches
And your heart it breaks
And you can only take so much
Walk on, walk on
Leave it behind
You've got to leave it behind
All that you fashion
All that you make
All that you build
All that you break
All that you measure
All that you steal
All this you can leave behind
All that you reason
All that you sense
All that you speak
All you dress up
All that you scheme

Melissa Etheridge
The Late September Dogs
Just outside my window, I hear the late September dogs
And I understand their warning, I understand their song
Since you left I feel the change in the air
And night after night I’m searching for mercy everywhere
So I wake in the street and I call out your name
I shout to the sky, please…
Come on let it rain
Let it rain down on me
Let the rain touch my hands
Let the rain set me free
Let it rain down on me
Silence is the steel that pierces and cuts me to the bone
In dreams the hand that touches you is mine and mine alone
Cruel is the light is the morning shining down on me
Hours with the devil to understand just what you need
So I wake in the street, and I call out your name
Shout to the sky, come on!
Come on let it rain
Let it rain down on me
Let the rain fill my eyes
Let the rain set me free
Let it rain down on me
Just inside the distance I hear the late September dogs
And so I beg for sleep, the child who walked before she crawled
Damn my soul that remembers and clutches to this pain
The spear in your side is me
Come on let it rain
Let it rain down on me
Let the rain touch my hands
Let the rain set me free
Oh, let it rain
Let the rain fill my eyes
I don’t want to see
No, let it rain down on me
Let it rain down on me

Patsy Cline
Sorry DM, but I thought this particular piece of Patsy's was just oh so appropriate today
*cue honky-tonk piano*
Sweet dreams of you
Every night I go through
Why can't I forget you
and start my life anew
Instead of having sweet dreams
about you
You don't love me, it's plain
I should know, I'll never wear your ring
I should hate you
the whole night through
Instead of having sweet dreams
about you
Sweet dreams of you
Things I know can't come true
Why can't I forget the past
Start loving someone new
Instead of having sweet dreams
about you

Argh!
You know what you have done? You have made me curious about what the heck Patsy song is on that tape! Now I have to go find the dang thing and listen to it.
Bugger.
Also, as a note to all: It's all very well and good to take this VDay as an opportunity for self-pity and all, but I expect you all to be much cheerier tomorrow ... make that the day after tomorrow -- there is a bit too much drinking going on here for anybody to be feeling chipper the next day.
Let's not make this a way of life or anything, right?
All right, I gotta go dig around in the basement for a bit.
