The BG Saga is over. If they will want to make a game whey'll have to place it before bg1 (like kill bhaal... ) or make an entirely new storyline in which case the name Baldur's Gate will be useless.
I'd like to see hints about great warriors that uprooted kingdoms with their strength (korgan), very powerful awe-inspiring drow (viconia), elminster having a great battle with an uber red wizard (edwin) or stuff like that.
If the story IS before BG1 there will be (again) a godlike storyline (killing the lord of murder) and if it's in the FR backround (probabily a lot of time after BG) it would be cool to find Minsc's Sword of A-lot-of-damage, Robe of Edwin, stuff like that. Make us remember the epic storyline that unfolded with BG!
But I'd sure love to find my party (korgan, viconia & edwin)
My edwin would be a demigod wizard, korgan an old dwarven king and viconia... well.. she'll just be Viconia.
you can't kill the Lord of Murder, the mortal Cyric (an evil fighter/mage from Calimport) killed him in a temple to bhaal himself on the eighth day of Eleasias the year 1358 DR, the year of shadows and the year of the Time of Troubles. Cyric and Bhaal were both competing over gaining Bane's god portfolio when Bane fell to Torm.
But that's offtopic, the NPCs I would like to see in BGIII are
prequel: Gorion, Minsc as a child(he is older than the PC, but how much older?), Elminster would definitely be possible, he's almost 600 years old, and Volo is cool
sequel:some cameo appearances of the NPCs from BG1+2, meeting the Justice Fist(Minsc's new party) would be cool, but other than that all new NPCs
My two coppers.

Melissan...wouldnt it be funny to have her in your party.
Gorion is a good choice as well...perhaps khalid? if it was set before bg 1, that is. Perhaps some of Gorions cronies as well.

Minsc and Boo should definitely be in BG3, for the sake of funny dialogues.
I would like to see Ajantis ressurected too. He was quite cool in BG1.

I'd love meeting *all* BGII (+ToB) NPCs, chit-chatting and see what they have done with their lives. Unfortunatelly, my favourite Keldorn was killed in a battle, as ToB ending tells. But maybe his ghost could appear, and help me in a dark time of great danger by providing vital clues for proceeding further?
Apart from that, new faces bringing interesting stories, please.

Keldorn is more likely to go against you.

...and the reason of his hostility is...?

If they ever make this game, which I sincerely doub, it needs a completely fresh set of characters so as to avoid the "they included this character so why not that one" criticism that is bound to appear.

All depends on your perspective of humour ... to me Minsc was a one trick pony whose charm had worn thin by the end of the first game. After hearing him yell "butt-kicking for goodness" for the umpteenth time banging my head repeatedly against a brick wall seemed like more fun.

Interesting you find Jan annoying ... a character who is well written, rounded and whose humour, although far from subtle, requires some thought. Yet praise a "character" who is little developed beyond an unhelathy obsession with a rodent, and whose "humour" is based on the belief of sentience in said hamster. : confused:

@ RavenSong: Obviously her opinion is that Minsc is funny and Jan is annoying, whereas your opinion is Jan is funny and Minsc is annoying. It's a matter of preference, so don't insult her opinion because they differ from yours; it isn't a very effective form of debate. The reasons for your opinions (minsc undeveloped, has an unhealthy obsession in rodent, etc.) are also subjective; do not therefore throw them around as if they are established facts. I find Minsc quite funny and cute, but also find Jan amusing (if long winded). See how that works? I got my opinion across without insulting someone else's and didn't come off as arrogant. This post of yours worked much better:

See you put them to great use.
Like Tony said, its a matter of opinion; i prefer short sharp and shiny humour, as oppossed to long jokes and what not. Plus it's annoying when you get dialogue in battle.

Apologies Sonara if I came across as insulting and/or arrogant
(*hangs head in shame*), the last week has been rather stressful and I was venting (I solemnly promises never to visit chat rooms when vexed, again) Had I been less narky I probably would have "unpacked" my argument a little more ... I still believe Minsc was very much neglected in terms of character development by Bioware, but this is not the forum to discuss such things.
whereas your opinion is Jan is funny and Minsc is annoying
*edit*
Not exactly ... I wasn't thinking or writing especially clearly but my intent was to suggest that Jan's character/humour were more thought out/developed than Minsc's, not that I found it especially funny. I often find the length of Jan's ramblings detract somewhat from the intended humour, in that by the time I have reached the end of them, I've forgotten much of what he said at the beginning.

Well...Edwin (obviously... )
And Korgan with Viconia. Not Minsc (i never liked him much). Imoen would be cool because we saw her in all the saga.
Unfortunatly i doubt they will really make this game....
I'd prefer they don't make the game more than they release a stupid prequel or sequel. BG is UNTOUCHABLE!!!
...I never said that i found Jan funny, just that I thought his character/humour were better developed than Minsc's...
They inteneded to do more with Minsc. The guarded compound in the Temple District in SoA was, IIRC, the finale of Minsc's quest. And I figure that if there'd been a quest, there'd be more character development.

I hope no-one of them returns, I also hope the game won`t be named BG3 and wont be in the Sword Coast setting at all.
The BG thrilogy was genious, and a worthy conclusion to the "Shadows of the Avatar" book series (Time of Troubles), but, there are plenty of evil in Faerun to be embraced or destroyd, and plenty of characters to aquaint with
It`s not necessary to squize more juice out of this lemon.
As i posted in the "which setting.." thread, I`m really fed up with Sword Coast.. if you people love those BG characters so much, I suggest you play the series one more time, or 4 (as I did
) Try also downloading the alternative Ascension ending to ToB, if you haven`t already:

Yes I agree it is the personal quests that add a great deal to a character. While there is a Minsc related component of the Unfinished Business mod that adds a quest it is Boo related... *sigh*
It's a shame really as Minsc could have been an extremely interesting and well developed character. (There is an NPC mod in development over at CoM that includes a romance with Minsc - I eagerly wait to see how this adds to his character)

I agree. I like the personal quests, they add to texture of the game, as well as the exp count.

I enjoy the chracter quests but only because they seem to flesh the characters themselves out more, not because I truly enjoyed them.
I also agree JCDenton here that were they to create a BGIII (which I bet they won't) I would like it to be somewhere else (and please, for the love of God nowhere up north... between Neverwinter Nights, the Icewind Dales and the Drizzt books I'm thoroughly sick of Faerun's northern provinces). BGI detailed Baldur's Gate, SOA went to Amn, and TOB did Tethyr so it's natural they'd place this somewhere else; what worries me is that it'd be along the Sword Coast too. For anyone out there who's familiar with the Realms at all (whether via books, games, D&D, etc.) it is a colossal world and i know I'd like to see alot more of it. Cormyr would be an awesome setting, or just anywhere along the Sea of Falling Stars for example, as I too am sick of the Sword Coast.
The characters? I don't mind if a few return, but they'd have to take in account the endings they wrote for all the characters in TOB and I find it unlikely you could incorporate any of them too well. I'd like completely new ones, with maybe a Minsc or Jan cameo (once again, assuming they'd fit the TOB endings).
