Hey! Awesome! Vacation time for Bunny. :D Saudi Arabia is closer to the Nile than Bunny's croc pit is. Home turf for her, you know. ;)

Perhaps she could stop by for a dip there, after she...visits you. :)

I don't think SYM is dying as much as it is experiencing a natural progression.

When GameBanshee first started up, many of us came here as part of a common experience, namely Baldur's Gate 2. SYM was established as a spam forum to clear the BG2 forum of the superflous postings that were taking that game forum over. As the community has drifted away from BG2, people have come and gone because there is no longer something we all have in common.

SYM has definitely become more serious, but not necessarily because of the debate threads; it's partly the membership. Many of the original members have moved on, and not just recently. Flagg, Chrissy and some others left well over a year ago (some close to two years ago), and some of our other friends have abandoned SYM since. Others of us have found that real life is intruding as children have come along or school starts and any number of other events that keep people from posting.

I happen to like the debates and SYM has always been a good place to have them because the people here are so civil. However, politically these boards have become less diverse as the folks who seemed to be in the minority either left (EMINEM) or got banned (Sailor Saturn). SYM has also been a good place for silliness, although I will admit that after 11 September 2001 and the war in Iraq, being serious has pervaded not just GameBanshee, but our daily lives as well.

ICQ and instant messaging have been blamed for the demise of the tavern threads; not having participated in either, I cannot comment on this, but it seems to me that the membership here has not grown lately in the same way that it was a year or two ago.

I first came to GameBanshee because it is the "Official Fan Site" of Baldur's Gate 2 and I believe that to be the main reason why many of us started here to begin with. I don't know that SYM will ever go back to "the good old days", but I believe that as our common experiences become fewer and further between, the membership here will dwindle unless something comes along and brings that back.

I think that's hit the pale on the base. After all, it's the same with friends in real life, they're only really your friends because of common interests, when those aren't there then there is nothing to talk about or agree/disagree on.

Agreed. Friends are friends due to a common bond of some sort. When that bond fades, you are still left with feelings of goodwill, but that alone doesn't generate conversation.

Speaking of which, I just heard that Mr. Chekov was actually Captain Kirk's secret lover. Notice how when Kirk wasn't on the bridge, Chekov wasn't either. This has ominous implications.

heh, I still remember that conversation, in some ways that kind of conversation used to form organically and it was good for a laugh. I figure most of the crew was inclined towards Kirk, I mean, who wouldn't be.

Sulu. He was into Nurse Chapel. And Spock, he was making the moves on Ohura. Everyone else was Kirk's little plaything, including Mr. Scott. Especially Mr. Scott.

Btw, that Avatar is pretty cool. The best one you've had yet. ;)

Well I kind of stole it from someone else who wasn't using it any more, it amuses me every time I see it. It works on so many levels ;)

I always thought Kirk and McCoy had some private trysts during their "counseling sessions". Why do you think Kirk called him "Bones"?
