Has anyone thought about doing an online diary about there experiences going through
bg2. There tactics, weapons, how they handled
some of the big battles and quests. Maybe more than one person can do a diary. someone whos good with say a sorcerer (pat) or monk.
(genesis) or nighthawk, weasel,or anyone with the time and the skill to wright that much down. I,ve played through twice, but there are still classes that i do not no a lot about I would love to read
a good gamers account of this game. If any of you boys are wiiling I for one will read every word. yes i can just play more and i do, but you can only play your way which might not be the best. yours rowdin.

Congrats! I have a 13 month old, who's demanding much of my attention right now. Just learned to walk. It's awesome. Image

Okay, Image no suckin' up to Nighthawk! Image Image

Glad to see you back in this thread, and that you didn't get personal with any of the comments. I, too, have found this whole debate rather helpful with regard to other classes or combinations I usually don't play. Your information on the sorceror class has been more than useful, and I'm glad people have started to realize just how fun the class can be. Seems several months ago on this board, a couple of threads came up about whether people liked the class at all, and there were more people who supported it than disliked it. Glad to see there are now a number of devoted fans to the class.

I like this discussion because it seems a lot of us (certainly I am) are learning from it. For one thing, I had overlooked the SI: Abjuration for defense against True Seeing.

Couple things caught my eye in the posts since last time I went through:

Blackrazor - This is a very powerful weapon, but the level drain effect is rare enough that in a straight up duel it loses to Flail of the Ages or Crom Faeyr and basically splits with Celestial Fury.

Saves - At the cap with the best equipment most saves are made automatically. Mage save vs death may be one exception. Among other things, this means that Celestial Fury's stun effect can effectively be ignored unless combined with Greater Malaison

Classes - I wouldn't say all classes are equal, but several classes are very, very powerful and would have a good shot in a duel depending on the opponent. IMO these include (in no particular order): Sorcerer, Monk, Ranger/Cleric, Inquisitor, Berzerker, Berzerker/Mage, Jester, Assasin, Kensai/Thief, Berzerker/Thief, Barbarian, etc, etc. I think as we go up to level 40 in the expansion magic users will become more powerful relative to the other classes. Imprisonment in particular has the potential for ending fights very quickly despite Cloaks of Mirroring, magic resistance and good saves.

Results: Pat - Interesting that you came to the conclusion it would be a draw. I proposed on an earlier thread that with Staff of Magi and Cloak of Mirroring almost any duel would be likely to end in a draw. In a sufficiently large area with best play I can see how any duel could be a draw. I think a capture the flag type team contest would be fun.

Nice to see you've come back down to earth Pat! Image I think we all like to think we have the strongest character, but they do have weaknesses that can be exploited, thus making them fallable.

Personally, I hope some sort of BG Arena is created. A 1 on 1 or a team vs team feature would be nice. As for arena's? Well, everyone know the Small Teeth Pass? Maybe a smaller version of that place could be good. Also, the North Forest and Elven Camp would be other great areas to duel.

I believe though, that the arena's will need to be equal for all classes. It would need an area to hide for the thief classes, some place to dual for fighting, and some chokepoints for traps, spehere of chaos etc etc...

Too, true. That would be really fun. Image I hope they come up with something so make this happen, but I don't know if there is the demand out there for it. Do some of you with better knowledge of programming think this could come out in a patch? I wouldn't think so, but I wish it could.

Also, a bounty hunter could really wreak havoc in such a tournament, just not alone.

Capture the Flag would be even more fun in BG than in Quake etc., because of the options for stronghold assaults. Think about it- send your party of fighters into a paladin stronghold, and find out if piety is worth it! Send a group of gnomish illusionists into a thief stronghold, and have an invisibility war! Or, send a trio of sorcerors and a bard or two against an encampment of clerics, and let the gods wet themselves!

Another nice aspect would be the defending missions. Easiest to roleplay as a tank, but could get very interesting. As a mage, why bother patrolling, when you can set magical warning glyphs all over the place. Ah, but have you remembered to seal that window on the second floor? No? Better do so now, and hope that an assassin isn't behind the curtain!

And so on.

Just out of curiosity, I am not near my home PC and can't test this, but if a mage has stoneskins and a thief backstabs with a weapon like Blackblood +3, the acid will get through, but does the backstab multiplier affect the acid? Can anyone test this and post back? I haven't noticed whether it does or not in the game.

Hey Pat, here's to BG Arena. Image

Never mind 1-on-1, can you imagine team play? Or 2 guys controlling 2 parties?

What about free for all? Image

I think you may be on to something. The first step to strength is recognising your weaknesses. Every class has weaknesses. Every situation in BG arena would expose those weaknesses.

I can see me getting even less sleep on a night if BG arena comes to fruition Image

I was thinking whether 6 strongest individual characters in a party (eg monk, ranger/cleric, sorcerer, kensai/mage, berserker/thief & inquisitor) would be better than 6 teamwork characters (eg bounter hunter, jester, assassin, conjurer, berserker & paladin). :)

Also, if you think soloing will let you gain levels quicker, why not just wait until you want to. Like hitting the level up button when you think you are in trouble. Therefore the best character would be the lowest level individual finishing the whole game.

Well, just my thoughts.

That sounds like a new challenge: Lowest level character to complete the game solo.

If you add the classes together, multiclass is out (maybe should be a seperate category). My money is on the thief...in fact, I'll put this up as a new post.

Interesting points. The party of the most powerful characters is not necessarily better than the "average" party. And the most powerful character (for duels) is probably not the same, which can play through the game, especially if we consider the lower levels.
But again, in this thread we were talking of the winner in PC vs PC duels as the best class (or most powerful one).
