'Fiddle And The Drum' by A Perfect Circle
And so once again,
My dear Johnny, my dear friend,
And so once again you are fighting us all,
And when I ask you why,
You raise your sticks and cry, and I fall,
Oh, my friend,
How did you come?,
To trade the fiddle for the drum,
You say I have turned,
Like the enemies you've earned,
But I can remember,
All the good things you are,
And so I ask you please,
Can I help you find the peace and the star?,
Oh, my friend,
What time is this?,
To trade the handshake for the fist
And so once again,
Oh, America my friend,
And so once again,
You are fighting us all,
And when we ask you why,
You raise your sticks and cry and we fall,
Oh, my friend,
How did you come,
To trade the fiddle for the drum
You say we have turned,
Like the enemies you've earned,
But we can remember,
All the good things you are,
And so we ask you please,
Can we help you find the peace and the star?,
Oh my friend,
We have all come,
To fear the beating of your drum

I heard this song tonight, and it made me remember my time with someone a few years ago. Yet another song which reminds me of a woman in my past.
"Smooth" by Santana featuring Rob Thomas
Man it’s a hot one
Like seven inches from the midday sun
I hear you whisper and the words melt everyone
But you stay so cool
My mu equita my spanish harlem mona lisa
Your my reason for reason
The step in my groove
Bridge
And if you say this life ain’t good enough
I would give my world to lift you up
I could change my life to better suit your mood
Cause you’re so smooth
Chorus
And just like the ocean under the moon
Well that’s the same emotion that I get from you
You got the kind of lovin that can be so smooth
Gimme your heart make it real
Or else forget about it
I’ll tell you one thing
If you would leave it would be a crying shame
In every breath and every word I hear your name calling me out
Out from the barrio you hear my rhythm from your radio
You feel the turning of the world so soft and slow
Turning you round and round

too bad that Weather Report songs don't have lyrics =), but here's something from RHCP.
Shallow Be Thy Game
I was not created in the likeness of a fraud
Your hell is something scary I prefer a loving god
We are not the center of this funny universe
And what is worse I do not serve
In fear of such a curse
Shallow be thy game 2000 years look in the mirror
You play the game of shame and tell your people live in fear
A rival to the way you see the Bible let him be
I'm a threat to your survival and your control company
CHORUS:
You'll never burn me
You'll never burn me
I'll be your heretic
You can't contain me
I am the power free
Truth belongs to everybody
To anyone who's listenin' you're not born into sin
The guilt they try and give you puke it in the nearest bin
Missionary maddness iweep up culture with a broom
Trashing ancient ways is par for the course
It's ****ing rude
To think that you're above the laws of nature is a joke
Purple sashes feeding masses smoke on which to choke
I might be a monkey when it comes to being holy
Fundamental hatred get down on your knees and
(chorus)
EDIT: discovering that Aenema is (was, to be more precise) the only song on this thread with such offensive language, i decided to put something a bit more decent

'Weak and Powerless' by A Perfect Circle (just love this song...especially the part which I marked with bold style
)
Tilling my own grave to keep me level
Jam another dragon down the hole
Digging to the rhythm and the echo of a solitary siren
One that pushes me along and leaves me so
Desperate and Ravenous
I'm so weak and powerless over you
Someone feed the monkey while I dig in search of China
White as Dracula as I approach the bottom
Desperate and Ravenous
I'm so weak and powerless over you
Little angel go away
Come again some other day
The devil has my ear today
I'll never hear a word you say
He promised I would find a little solace
And some piece of mind
Whatever just as long as I don't feel so
Desperate and Ravenous
I'm so weak and powerless over you
Desperate and Ravenous
I'm so weak and powerless
over you

FOXTROT UNIFORM CHARLIE KILO - The Bloodhoundgang
Vulcanize the whoopee stick
In the ham wallet
Cattle prod the oyster ditch
With the lap rocket
Batter dip the cranny ax
In the gut locker
Retrofit the pudding hatch
Ooh la la
With the boink swatter
If i get you in the loop when I make a point to be straight with you then
In lieu of the innuendo, in the end know my intent, though
I brazillian wax poetic, so hypothetic
I don't wanna beat around the bush
Foxtrot Uniform Charlie Kilo
Foxtrot Uniform Charlie Kilo
Marinate the nether rod
In the squish mitten
Power drill the yippee bog
With the dude piston
Pressure wash the quiver bone
In the bitch wrinkle
Cannonball the fiddle cove
Ooh la la
With the pork steeple
If i get you in the loop when I make a point to be straight with you then
In lieu of the innuendo, in the end know my intent, though
I brazillian wax poetic, so hypothetic
I don't wanna beat around the bush

5 to 1-- The Doors
5 to 1, baby 1 in 5
noone here gets out alive, now
you get yours, baby, i'll get mine
gonna make it baby, if we tryu
the old get old
and the young get stronger
may take a week and it
may take longer
they've got the guns, but
we've got the numbers
gonna win, yeah we're taking over
your ballroom days are over, baby
night is drawing near
shadows of the evening
crawl across the years
you walk accross the floor
with the flower in your hand
trying to tell me noone understands
trade in your hours for a hand full of dimes
gonna make it baby, in our prime.
Get together, one more time.
Get together, one more time.

More songs!
I heard this song for the first time tonight. It's quite close to a situation I've been through numerous times with certain friends.
"Maybe" by Everlast
Maybe
Maybe you could take a lil' piece of my pain
Maybe you can make it all feel the same
Maybe you can burn this night in my brain
Maybe you can find someone else to blame
For all this pain…
Maybe
Maybe you could tell me about your worst fear
Don't say it out loud, whisper in my ear
Ain't never felt nothing' like this here
Maybe you can see things a lil' more clear
Dry away your tear
I love you are just three words that are overused when we're talking
Love and friendship, situations get confusing so often
Maybe I should give this woman my name…a piece of my pain
Maybe
Maybe we can talk about all my dreams
Watch them all come apart at the seams
Sometimes when it rains it really teams
Sometimes they cut diamonds with laser beams…..whatever that means
I love you are just three words that are overused when we're talking
Love and friendship, situations get confusing so often
Maybe I should give this woman my time…that would be fine
Maybe
I love you are just three words that are overused when we're talking
Love and friendship, situations get confusing so often
Maybe I should give this woman my name…a piece of my pain
Maybe

Creed- My Own Prison
A court is in session, a verdict is in
No appeal on the docket today
Just my own sin
The walls are cold and pale
The cage made of steel
Screams fill the room
Alone I drop and kneel
Silence now the sound
My breath the only motion around
Demons cluttering around
My face showing no emotion
Shackled by my sentence
Expecting no return
Here there is no penance
My skin begins to burn
(And I said oh) So I held my head up high
Hiding hate that burns inside
Which only fuels their selfish pride
(And I said oh) We're all held captive
Out from the sun
A sun that shines on only some
We the meek are all in one
I hear a thunder in the distance
See a vision of a cross
I feel the pain that was given
On that sad day of loss
A lion roars in the darkness
Only he holds the key
A light to free me from my burden
And grant me life eternally
Should have been dead
On a Sunday morning
Banging my head
No time for mourning
Ain't got no time
(And I said oh) So I held my head up high
Hiding hate that burns inside
Which only fuels their selfish pride
(And I said oh) We're all held captive
Out from the sun
A sun that shines on only some
We the meek are all in one
I cry out to God
Seeking only his decision
Gabriel stands and confirms
I've created my own prison
I cry out to God
Seeking only his decision
Gabriel stands and confirms
I've created my own prison
(And I said oh) So I held my head up high
Hiding hate that burns inside
Which only fuels their selfish pride
(And I said oh) We're all held captive
Out from the sun
A sun that shines on only some
We the meek are all in one
(And I said oh) So I held my head up high
Hiding hate that burns inside
Which only fuels their selfish pride
(And I said oh) We're all held captive
Out from the sun
A sun that shines on only some
We the meek are all in one
Should've been dead on a Sunday morning
banging my head
No time for mourning
Ain't got no time

Lydia the Tattooed Lady
Oh Lydia, oh Lydia, say, have you met Lydia?
Lydia The Tattooed Lady.
She has eyes that folks adore so,
and a torso even more so.
Lydia, oh Lydia, that encyclo-pidia.
Oh Lydia The Queen of Tattoo.
On her back is The Battle of Waterloo.
Beside it, The Wreck of the Hesperus too.
And proudly above waves the red, white, and blue.
You can learn a lot from Lydia!
When her robe is unfurled she will show you the world,
if you step up and tell her where.
For a dime you can see Kankakee or Paree,
or Washington crossing The Delaware.
Oh Lydia, oh Lydia, say, have you met Lydia?
Lydia The Tattooed Lady.
When her muscles start relaxin',
up the hill comes Andrew Jackson.
Lydia, oh Lydia, that encyclo-pidia.
Oh Lydia The Queen of them all.
For two bits she will do a mazurka in jazz,
with a view of Niagara that nobody has.
And on a clear day you can see Alcatraz.
You can learn a lot from Lydia!
Come along and see Buffalo Bill with his lasso.
Just a little classic by Mendel Picasso.
Here is Captain Spaulding exploring the Amazon.
Here's Godiva, but with her pajamas on.
Here is Grover Whelan unveilin' The Trilon.
Over on the west coast we have Treasure Isle-on.
Here's Nijinsky a-doin' the rhumba.
Here's her social security numba.
Lydia, oh Lydia, that encyclo-pidia.
Oh Lydia The Champ of them all.
She once swept an Admiral clear off his feet.
The ships on her hips made his heart skip a beat.
And now the old boy's in command of the fleet,
for he went and married Lydia!
I said Lydia...
(He said Lydia...)
They said Lydia...
We said Lydia, la, la!

This song is dedicated to all of the SYM temptresses out there... You know who you are!
My eyes have seen you-- The Doors
My eyes have seen you
My eyes have seen you
My eyes have seen you
Stand in the door,
meet inside,
show me some more
show me some more
show me some more
My eyes have seen you
My eyes have seen you
My eyes have seen you
Turn and stare,
fix your hair,
move upstairs
move upstairs
move upstairs
My eyes have seen you
My eyes have seen you
My eyes have seen you
Free from disguise,
gazing on a city under television skies
television skies
television skies
My eyes have seen you
My eyes have seen you
My eyes have seen you
Let me photograph your soul,
memorize your alleys on an endless roll
endless roll
endless roll
endless roll
endless roll
endless roll

Steve Miller Band: Rockin' Me
Well I've been lookin' real hard
And I'm tryin' to find a job
But it just keeps gettin' tougher every day
But I got to do my part cause I know in my heart
I got to please my sweet baby, yeah
Well, I ain't superstitious
And I don't get suspicious
But my woman is a friend of mine
And I know that it's true that all the things that I do
Will come back to me in my sweet time
So keep on rockin' me baby
Keep on a rockin' me baby
Keep on a rockin' me baby
Keep on a rockin' me baby
I went from Phoenix, Arizona
All the way to Tacoma
Philadelphia, Atlanta, L.A.
Northern California where the girls are warm
So I could be with my sweet baby, yeah
Keep on a rockin' me baby
Keep on a rockin' me baby
Keep on a rockin' me baby
Keep on a rockin' me baby
Baby, baby, baby
Keep on rockin'
Rockin' me baby
Keep on a rockin'
Rockin' me baby
Don't get suspicious
Now don't be suspicious
Babe, you know you are a friend of mine
And you know that it's true
That all the things that I do
Are gonna come back to you in your sweet time
I went from Phoenix, Arizona
All the way to Tacoma
Philadelphia, Atlanta, L.A.
Northern California where the girls are warm
So I could hear my sweet baby say
Keep on a rockin' me baby
Keep on a rockin' me baby
Keep on a rockin' me baby
Keep on a rockin' me, rockin' me, rockin'
Baby, baby, baby
Keep on a rockin' me baby
Keep on a rockin' me baby
Keep on a rockin' me baby

Great song, classic.
LOVE AT FIRST FEEL
Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap (1981)
(Young, Young, Scott)
You never told me where you came from
You never told me your name
I didn't know if you were legal tender
But I spent you just the same
I didn't think it could happen to me
But I fell in love in the first degree -
It was love at first feel
love at first feel
love at first feel
(the first touch was too much)
They told me it was disgustin'
They told me it was a sin
They saw me knocking on your front door
And they saw me smile when you let me in
You and me baby we're all alone
Let's get something goin'
While your mum and dad ain't home -
It was love at first feel
(Feel good just like I knew it would)

This may well have been posted before, but there is a great need for it to be posted again,IMO. Especially dedicated to the denizens of the SF
Chins up!
Best of All Possible Worlds
I was runnin' thru the summer rain, try'n' to catch that evenin' train
And kill the old familiar pain weavin' thru my tangled brain
When I tipped my bottle back and smacked into a cop I didn't see
That police man said, "Mister Cool, if you ain't drunk, then you're a fool."
I said, "If that's against the law, then tell me why I never saw
A man locked in that jail of yours who wasn't neither black or poor as me?"
Well, that was when someone turned out the lights
And I wound up in jail to spend the night
And dream of all the wine and lonely girls
In this best of all possible worlds.
Well, I woke up next mornin' feelin' like my head was gone
And like my thick old tongue was lickin' something sick and wrong
And I told that man I'd sell my soul for something wet and cold as that old cell.
That kindly jailer grinned at me, all eaten up with sympathy
Then poured himself another beer and came and whispered in my ear,
"If booze was just a dime a bottle boy, you couldn't even buy the smell"
I said, "I knew there was something I liked about this town."
But it takes more than that to bring me down, down, down.
'Cause there's still a lot of wine and lonely girls
In this best of all possible worlds
Well, they finally came and told me they was a gonna set me free
And I'd be leavin' town if I knew what was good for me
I said, "It's nice to learn that ev'rybody's so concerned about my health."
(They were obsessed with it)
I said, "I won't be leavin' no more quicker than I can
'Cause I've enjoyed about as much of this as I can stand
And I don't need this town of yours more than I never needed nothin' else."
'Cause there's still alot of drinks that I ain't drunk
And lots of pretty thoughts that I ain't thunk
And lord there's still so many lonely girls
In this best of all possible worlds.

Ok fine if you didn't like that, try this instead...
Up in smoke you’ve lost another lover
As you take a hit off your last cigarette
Strung out, burnt out
Yeah you’re down on your luck
And you don’t give a ..
. ’til the best part of you starts to twitch
Ain’t that a bitch
Freak out! I’m alone now
I feel just like I’m losin’my mind
’cause love is like the right dress
On the wrong girl
You never know what you’re gonna find
You think you’re high and fine as wine
Then you wind up like a dog in a ditch
’cause love is like a wrong turn
On a cold night ... yeah
Ain’t that a bitch
In a daze
In the throes of emotion
You see God in the devil’s eyes
Then you fall so far from grace
You wouldn’t know a kiss
If it was on your face
You can tell it to the jury
But you ain’t got no case
Freak out! I’m alone now
I feel just like I’m losin’my mind
’cause love is like the right dress
On the wrong girl
You never know what you’re gonna find
The gal was fine as calamine but not
Enough to scratch a seven year itch
’cause love is like the last licks
Outta hendrix ... yeah
Ain’t that a bitch
Then you feel so out of place
Lickin’up the arsenic
From the same old lace
You know the stuff is poison
But you gotta have a taste
Freak out! I’m alone now
I feel just like I’m losin’ my mind
’cause love is like the right dress
On the wrong girl
You never know what you’re gonna find
You think you’re high and fine as wine
Then you wind up with your face in the ditch
’cause love is like a warm gun
On a cold night ... yeah
Ain’t that a bitch

Nice Kristofferson song Fiona: here I worried I was the only person on this planet who had heard of him
... Here's another one for good measure (I bet it's been posted before, but I bet few didn't know he originally wrote it!)
"Me and Bobby McGee"
-Kris Kristofferson,
Me and Bobby Mcgee
Busted flat in Baton Rouge, headin' for the train,
Feelin' nearly faded as my jeans.
Bobby thumbed a diesel down, just before it rained;
Took us all the way to New Orleans.
I took my harpoon out of my dirty red bandanna,
And was blowing sad while Bobby sang the blues.
With them windshield wipers slappin' time,
And Bobby clappin' hands,
We finally sang up every song that driver knew.
Freedom's just another word for nothing' left to lose:
Nothin' ain't worth nothin' but it's free.
Feeling good was easy, Lord, when Bobby sang the blues.
Feeling good was good enough for me;
Good enough for me and Bobby McGee.
From the coal mines of Kentucky to the California sun,
Bobby shared the secrets of my soul.
Standin' right beside me, Lord, through everything I've done,
Every night she kept me from the cold.
Then somewhere near Salinas, Lord, I let her slip away,
Lookin' for the home I hope she'll find.
And I'd trade all my tomorrows for a single yesterday,
Holdin' Bobby's body next to mine.
Freedom's just another word for nothing' left to lose:
Nothin' left is all she left for me.
Feeling good was easy, Lord, when Bobby sang the blues.
Buddy, that was good enough for me;
Good enough for me and Bobby McGee.
La da da la la na na na
La da da na na.
La la la da, Me and Bobby McGee.
La la la la la da da da
La la la da da.
La la la da, Me and Bobby McGee.
La la la la la na na na
La la la da da.
La da da da, Me and Bobby McGee.
La la la la la da da da.................

Great aerosmith, maverick... I was just about to post that sucker.
Aerosmith- The other side
Lovin' you has got to be Take me to the
other side
Like the devil and the deep blue sea Take me to the
other side
Forget about your foolish pride Take me to the
other side
Oh take me to the other side Take me to the
other side
My mama told me there'd be days like this
And man she wasn't foolin'
'Cause I just can't believe the way you kiss
You opened up your mouth with bated breath
You said you'd never leave me
You love me, you hate me, I tried to take the loss
You're cryin' me a river, but I got to get across
Lovin' you has got to be Take me to the
other side
Like the devil and the deep blue sea Take me to the
other side
Forget about your foolish pride Take me to the
other side
A honey, take me to the other side Take me to the
other side
I'm lookin' for another kind of love
Oh Lordy, how I need it
The kind that likes to leap without a shove
Oh, honey, best believe it
To save a lot of time and foolish pride
I'll say what's on my mind, girl
You loved me, you hate me, you cut me down to size
You blinded me with love and yeah it opened up my eyes
Lovin' you has got to be Take me to the
other side
Like the devil and the deep blue sea Take me to the
other side
My conscience got to be my guide Take me to the
other side
Oh, honey, take me, take, take, take, take, take me
Take me to the other side
I'm lookin' for another kind of love
Oh Lordy, how I need it
The kind that likes to leap without a shove
Honey, you best believe it
Now I ain't one for sayin' long good-bye's
I hope all is forgiven
You love me, you hate me, I used to be your lover
You know you had it comin', girl
So take me to the other side
Take me to the other side
Take me to the other side
Lovin' you has got to be Take me to the
other side
Like the devil and the deep blue sea Take me to the
other side
You know my conscience got to be my guide Take me to the
other side
Honey, take me to the other side Take me to the
other side
Lovin' you has got to be Take me to the
other side
Like the devil and the deep blue sea Take me to the
other side
Forget about your foolish pride Take me to the
other side
Honey, take me, take me, take me
Take me to the other side
Take me to the other side
Take me to the other side
Take me to the other side

Buy a Gun for Your Son
"Hallelujah, Dads and Mommies,
Cowboys, Rebels, Yanks and Commies.
Buy yourself some real red-blooded fun.
If you want to make the grade,
You've got to have a hand grenade,
And a fully automatic GI gun.
Chorus:
So, buy a gun for your son right away, sir.
Shake his hand like a man and let him play, sir.
Let his little mind expand.
Place a weapon in his hand.
For the skills he learns today, we'll someday pay, sir.
Pound that kid into submission,
Till he's mastered nuclear fission.
Buy him plastic warheads by the score.
Once he's got the taste of blood,
He's gonna sneak up on his buddies,
Starting his own thermo-nuclear war.
[chorus]
Buy him khakis and fatigues
And sign him up in little leagues.
Give him calisthenics as a rule.
Once you've banished fear and dread,
Then pat his seven-year-old head
And send him off to military school.
[chorus]
Once he's grown to be a man,
He might get tired of blasting Granny.
Then you see a crisis coming on.
Don't get worried. Don't get nervous.
Send that kid into the service.
Let him rise into the Pentagon.
[chorus]
At the Pentagon he'll rise.
The President he will advise,
His reputation growing all the while.
With his picture on the wall,
He'll get that long-awaited call
And press the firing buttons with a smile.

There has been a horrible lack of blues music posted here, so I thought this song would be a good place to start fixing this God-awful problem (
). This is one of my favorite blues songs of all time and it still amazes me: this man was completely blind (from birth I believe) but was somehow able to write such vivid, colorful lyrics. It's astonishing really!
"The Dyin' Craphsooter's Blues"
-Blind Willie McTell,
The Devil Can't Hide From Me
Little Jesse was a gambler, night and day
He used crooked cards and dice.
Sinful guy, good hearted but had no soul
Heart was hard and cold like ice
Jesse was a wild reckless gambler
Won a gang of change
Altho' a many gambler's heart he led in pain
Began to spend a-loose his money
Began to be blue, sad and all alone
His heart had even turned to stone.
What broke Jesse's heart while he was blue and all alone
Sweet Lorena packed up and gone
Police walked up and shot my friend Jesse down
Boys i got to die today
He had a gang of crapshooters and gamblers at his bedside
Here are the words he had to say:
Guess I ought to know
Exactly how I wants to go
(How you wanna go, Jesse?)
Eight crapshooters to be my pallbearers
Let 'em be veiled down in black
I want nine men going to the graveyard, bubba
And eight men comin back
I want a gang of gamblers gathered 'round my coffin-side
Crooked card printed on my hearse
Don't say the crapshooters'll never grieve over me
My life been a doggone curse
Send poker players to the graveyard
Dig my grave with the ace of spades
I want twelve polices in my funeral march
High sheriff playin' blackjack, lead the parade
I want the judge and solic'ter who jailed me 14 times
Put a pair of dice in my shoes (then what?)
Let a deck of cards be my tombstone
I got the dyin' crapshooter's blues
Sixteen real good crapshooters
Sixteen bootleggers to sing a song
Sixteen racket men gamblin'
Couple tend bar while i'm rollin' along
He wanted 22 womens outta the Hampton Hotel
26 off-a South Bell
29 women outta North Atlanta
Know little Jesse didn't pass out so swell
His head was achin', heart was thumpin'
Little Jesse went to hell bouncin' and jumpin'
Folks, don't be standin' around ole Jesse cryin'
He wants everybody to do the charleston whilst he dyin'
One foot up, a toenail dragging
Throw my buddy Jesse in the hoodoo wagon
Come here mama with that can of booze
The dyin crapshooter's - leavin' the world
The dyin' crapshooter's - goin' down slow
With the dyin' crapshooter's blues
