Song Lyrics

Post by Lazarus »

Has anyone done this thread yet? If so, maybe it could get bumped - ? If not, I invite you all to COMMUNICATE some beautiful lyrics to one another in this thread.

I'll start! One of my favorite bands is OINGO BOINGO (Danny Elfman, I must emphatically state, is a GENIOUS!). Here's one of their tracks, called Capitalism:

There's nothing wrong with Capitalism
There's nothing wrong with free enterprise
Don't try to make me feel guilty
I'm so tired of hearing you cry

There's nothing wrong with making some profit
If you ask me I'll say it's just fine
There's nothing wrong with wanting to live nice
I'm so tired of hearing you whine
About the revolution
Bringin' down the rich
When was the last time you dug a ditch, baby!

If it ain't one thing
Then it's the other
Any cause that crosses your path
Your heart bleeds for anyone's brother
I've got to tell you you're a pain in the [edit to avoid censor]

You criticize with plenty of vigor
You rationalize everything that you do
With catchy phrases and heavy quotations
And everybody is crazy but you

You're just a middle class, socialist brat
From a suburban family and you never really had to work
And you tell me that we've got to get back
To the struggling masses (whoever they are)
You talk, talk, talk about suffering and pain
Your mouth is bigger than your entire brain
What the hell do you know about suffering and pain?

(Repeat first verse)

(Repeat chorus)

There's nothing wrong with Capitalism
There's nothing wrong with Capitalism
There's nothing wrong with Capitalism
There's nothing wrong with Capitalism

Oh, boy, I'm in it for this! Maybe some other people could post less political songs before the thread gets locked.

Posion's Flesh and Blood is a good one!
I like the music better though.

(Flesh & Blood) Sacrifice

Like animals
Tonight we make it
You give me an inch,
I'm gonna take it

I'll steal your love
Like a thief
To be as one
is my belief

Don't look back and have no regrets
Like beasts of prey we must feed on it
I'll be your one, your one and only
To feel me burn come close and hold me

Chorus:
Flesh and Blood sacrifice
Melts the heart like fire and ice
Flesh and blood like fire to ice
Are you willing to sacrifice

There's no more time,
Don't think about
The flame will die
If you doubt

It's a game of
Love and hate
To lose it all's
a chance we take

Come to me and take my hand
It's in the fire that we must stand
I'll take you down under my gun
Our flesh and blood will be as one

Chorus

Our blood runs deeper than a river
The less you need the more I'm gonna give you
And give you but good

Solo, chorus
For what is it to die but to stand naked in the wind and to melt into the sun? - Khalil Gibran

"We shall fight on the beaches. We shall fight on the landing grounds. We shall fight in the fields, and in the streets, we shall fight in the hills. We shall never surrender!" - Winston Churchill

Oh yeah this one is also great!

Girls, Girls, Girls

Friday night and I need a fight
My motorcycle and a switchblade knife
Handful of grease in my hair feels right
But what I need to make me tight are

Girls, Girls, Girls
Long legs and burgundy lips
Girls, Girls, Girls
Dancin' down on Sunset Strip
Girls, Girls, Girls
Red lips, fingertips

Trick or treat - sweet to eat
On Halloween and New Year's Eve
Yankee girls ya just can't beat
But you're the best when you're off their feet

Girls, Girls, Girls
At the dollhouse in St. Lauderdale
Girls, Girls, Girls
Rocking in Atlanta at Tattletails
Girls, Girls, Girls
Raising Hell at the 7th Veil

Have you read the news
In the Soho Tribune
Ya know she did me
Well then she broke my heart

I'm such a good good boy
I just need a new toy
I tell ya what, girl dance for me
I'll keep you overimployed
Just tell me a story
You know what I mean

Crazy Horse, Paris, France
Forget the names, remember romances
I got the photos, a menage a trois
Must broke those Frenchies laws with those

Girls, Girls, Girls
Body Shop, Marble Arch
Girls, Girls, Girls
Tropicana's where I lost my heart
Girls, Girls, Girls
For what is it to die but to stand naked in the wind and to melt into the sun? - Khalil Gibran

"We shall fight on the beaches. We shall fight on the landing grounds. We shall fight in the fields, and in the streets, we shall fight in the hills. We shall never surrender!" - Winston Churchill

This is from the band Project Pitchfork. The track is called Alpha Omega

imagine a child
living in a dark place
being accused of being a failure
nothing is right
everything is wrong
nothing is right
everything is wrong

imagine this child
growing up in a world
which pays no attention
to its positive behavior
always noticing
the bad things
always noticing
the bad things

imagine a person
appearing on this scene
giving love
giving back its selfesteem
this child will turn away
from its hopeless past
and continue its life
in conscience and trust

same could be with humanity

small things are big
huge things are small
tiny acts have huge effects
everything counts
nothing's lost

imagine a crayfish
thrown into boiled water
it will try to escape
as fast as it can

but imagine this crayfish
put into clear cold water
and imagine this water
slowly heated up

this crayfish will stay motionless
until he's cooked to death

same happens to humanity

small things are big
huge things are small
tiny acts have huge effects
everything counts
nothing's lost
While others climb the mountains High, beneath the tree I love to lie
And watch the snails go whizzing by, It's foolish but it's fun

ManOWar, Heart of Steel

Fields of fire
a thousand miles away
to light my long way home
I ride a comet
my trail is long to stay
Silence, is a heavey stone

I fight the world
and take all they can give
There are times my heart hangs low
Born to walk against the wind
Born to hear my name
No matter where I stand, I'm alone

Stand and fight
Live by your heart
Always one more try
I'm not afraid to die
Stand and fight
Say what your feel
Born with a heart of Steel

Burn the bridge behind you
Leave no retreat
There's only, one way home
Those who laugh and vrowd the path
And cut each other's throat
Will fall like melting snow

They'll watch us rise
With fire in our eyes
They'll bow their heads, their hearts will hang low
We will laugh and they will kneel
And know this heart of steel
was too hard to break, too hard to hold

Stand and fight
Live by your heart
Always one more try
I'm not afraid to die
Stand and fight
Say what your feel
Born with a heart of Steel

Awesome song in my opinion, actually probably one of my favorite all time

I have posted these lyrics before, it still remains one of my more mellow favourites ;)

From a Distance (the Nanci Griffiths version)

From a distance the world looks blue and grey and the snow capped mountains white,
And from a distance the ocean meets the stream, and the eagle takes to flight.

From a distance there is harmony and it echoes through the land,
and it's the voice of hope, it's the voice of peace, it's the voice of every man.

From a distance we all have enough, and no-one is in need,
and there are no guns, no bombs, no disease - there's no hungry mouths to feed.

From a distance we are instruments, and we're marching in a common band, playing songs of hope, playing songs of peace, they're the songs of every man.

God is watching us, God is watching us, God is watching us - from a distance...

From a distance you look like my friend, even though we are at war,
from a distance I can't comprehend what all this war is for,
and from a distance there is harmony, and it echoes through the land, and it's hope of hopes, it's the love of loves, it's the heart of every man....it is the hope of hopes, it's the love of loves, this is the song of every man. :)

Cool, responses! How about something from the softer side of Lazarus: Jewel's "Life Uncommon." Really beautiful song.

Don’t worry mother, it’ll be alright
And don’t worry sister, say your prayers and sleep right
It’ll be fine lover of mine
It’ll be just fine
Lend your voices only to sounds of freedom
No longer lend your strength to that which you wish to be free from
Fill your lives with love and bravery
And you shall lead a live uncommon
I’ve heard you anguish
I’ve heard you hearts cry out
We are tired, we are weary, but we aren’t worn out
set down your chains, until only faith remains
Set down your chains
And lend your voices only to sounds of freedom
No longer lend your strength to that
which you wish to be free from
Fill you lives with love and bravery
And we shall lead a life uncommon
There are plenty of people who pray for peace
But if praying were enough it would have come to be
Let your words enslave no one and the heavens will hush themselves
To hear our voices ring out clear
with sounds of freedom
sounds of freedom
Come on you unbelievers, move out of the way
there is a new army coming and we are armed with faith
To live, we must give
To live
And lend our voices only to sounds of freedom
No longer lend our strength to that which we with to be free from
Fill your lives with love and bravery
And we shall lead...
Lend our voices only to sounds of freedom
No longer lend our strength to that which we with to be free from
Fill you lives with love and bravery
And we shall lead a life uncommon

Edit: I copied and pasted this without proof-reading - there were a few errors to fix! ;)

I think this is an excellent forum for Communication. Well done, Brother Lazarus.

Danny Elfman a genious? Perhaps. Ray Davies, however, is far above and beyond his level. Observe this little gem: "Twentieth Century Man."

This is the age of machinery,
A mechanical nightmare,
The wonderful world of technology,
Napalm hydrogen bombs biological warfare,

This is the twentieth century,
But too much aggravation
It's the age of insanity,
What has become of the green pleasant fields of Jerusalem.

Ain't got no ambition, I'm just disillusioned
I'm a twentieth century man but I don't wanna be here.
My mama said she can't understand me
She can't see my motivation
Just give me some security,
I'm a paranoid schizoid product of the twentieth century.

You keep all your smart modern writers
Give me William Shakespeare
You keep all your smart modern painters
I'll take Rembrandt, Titian, Da Vinci and Gainsborough,

Girl we gotta get out of here
We gotta find a solution
I'm a twentieth century man but I don't want to die here.

I was born in a welfare state
Ruled by bureaucracy
Controlled by civil servants
And people dressed in grey
Got no privacy got no liberty
Cos the twentieth century people
Took it all away from me.

Don't wanna get myself shot down
By some trigger happy policeman,
Gotta keep a hold on my sanity
I'm a twentieth century man but I don't wanna die here.

My mama says she can't understand me
She can't see my motivation
Ain't got no security,
I'm a twentieth century man but I don't wanna be here.

This is the twentieth century
But too much aggravation
This is the edge of insanity
I'm a twentieth century man but I don't wanna be here.

Janis Joplin:

Oh Lord, won't you buy me a Mercedes Benz ?
My friends all drive Porsches, I must make amends.
Worked hard all my lifetime, no help from my friends,
So Lord, won't you buy me a Mercedes Benz ?

Oh Lord, won't you buy me a color T.V. ?
Dialing For Dollars is trying to find me.
I wait for delivery each day until three,
So oh Lord, won't you buy me a color T.V. ?

Oh Lord, won't you buy me a night on the town ?
I'm counting on you, Lord, please don't let me down.
Prove that you love me and buy the next round,
Oh Lord, won't you buy me a night on the town ?

To the Righteous belong the fruits of violent victory. The rest of us will have to settle for warm friends, warm lovers, and a wink from a quietly supportive universe.

Here's a song called "Alcohol" by Barenaked Ladies:

Alcohol, my permanent accessory
Alcohol, a party time necessity
Alcohol, alternative to feeling like yourself
O Alcohol, I still drink to your health.
Refrain:
I love you more than I did the week before I discovered alcohol.
Forget the café lattés, screw the raspberry iced tea
A Malibu and Coke for you, a g&t for me
Alcohol, your songs resolve like my life never will
When someone else is picking up the bill
(Refrain)
O Alcohol, would you please forgive me,
But while I cannot love myself
I'll use something else
I thought that alcohol was just for those with nothing else to do
I thought that drinking just to get drunk was a waste of precious
booze
But now I know that there's a time and there's a place where I can
choose
To walk the fine line between self control and self abuse
(Go, go, go, go, go, etc)
(Refrain)
Would you please ignore that you found me on the floor trying on your
camisole.
O Alcohol, would you please forgive me,
But while I cannot love myself
I'll use something else
Would you please forgive me?
"I find your lack faith of disturbing" -Darth Vader

The Church could use someone like that.

Here's a song called "Alcohol" by Ray Davies!

Here is a story about a sinner,
He used to be a winner who enjoyed a life of prominence and position,
But the pressures at the office and his socialite engagements,
And his selfish wife's fanatical ambition,
It turned him to the booze,
And he got mixed up with a floosie
And she led him to a life of indecision.
The floosie made him spend his dole
She left him lying on Skid Row
A drunken lag in some Salvation Army Mission.
It's such a shame.

Oh demon alcohol,
Sad memories I cannot recall,
Who thought I would say,
Damn it all and blow it all,
Oh demon alcohol,
Memories I cannot recall,
Who thought I would fall a slave to demon alcohol.

Barley wine pink gin,
He'll drink anything,
Port, pernod or tequila,
Rum, scotch, vodka on the rocks,
As long as all his troubles disappeared.
But he messed up his life and he beat up his wife,
And the floosie's gone and found another sucker
She's gonna turn him on to drink
She's gonna lead him to the brink
And when his money's gone,
She'll leave him in the gutter,
It's such a shame.

Oh demon alcohol,
Sad memories I cannot recall,
Who thought I would fall,
A slave to demon alcohol.

Sweating Bullets - Megadeth

Hello me ... Meet the real me
And my misfits way of life
A dark black past is my
Most valued possessions
Hindsight is always 20-20
But looking back it's still a bit fuzzy
Speak of mutually assured destruction?
Nice story ... Tell it to Reader's Digest !!!

Feeling paranoid
True enemy or false friend?
Anxiety's attacking me, and
My air is getting thin
I'm in trouble for the things
I haven't got to yet
I'm chomping at the bit and my
Palms are getting wet, sweating bullets

Hello me ... It's me again
You can subdue, but never tame me
It gives me a migraine headache
Thinking down to your level
Yea, just keep on thinking it's my fault
And stay an inch or two outta kicking distance
Mankind has got to know
His limitations

Feeling claustrophobic
Like the walls are closing in
Blood stains on my hands and
I don't know where I've been
I'm in trouble for the things
I haven't got to yet
I'm chomping at the bit and my
Palms are getting wet, sweating bullets

Well, me ... It's nice talking to myself
A credit to dementia
Some day you too will know my pain
And smile its blacktooth grin
If the war inside my head
Won't take a day off I'll be dead
My icy fingers claw your back
Here I come again

Feeling paranoid
True enemy or false friend?
Anxiety's attacking me, and
And my air is getting thin
Feeling claustrophobic
Like the walls are closing in
Blood stains on my hands and
I don't know where I've been
Once you committed me
Now you've acquited me
Claiming validity
For your stupidity
I'm chomping at the bit
I'm sharpening the axe
Here I come again, whoa!
Sweating bullets

Countdown To Extinction - Megadeth

Endangered species, caged in fright
Shot in cold blood, no chance to fight
The stage in set, now pay the price
An ego boost don't think twice
Technology, the battle's unfair
You pull the hammer without a care
Squeeze the trigger that makes you Man
Pseudo-start, the hunt is canned ...
The hunt is canned

All are gone, all but one
No contest, nowhere to run
No more left, only one
This is it, this is the Countdown to Extinction

Tell the truth, you wouldn't dare
The skin and thophy, oh so rare
Silence speaks louder than words
Ignore the guilt, and take your turn
Liars anagram is "liars"
Man you were never even there
Killed a few feet from the cages
Point blank, you're so courageous ...
So courageous

[Chorus]

One hour from now
Another species of life form
Will disappear off the face of the planet
Forever ... and the rate is accelerating
*Beware!!!!*
*Has tendincies to lie and hurt*

Train Of Consequences - Megadeth

I'm doing you a favor
As I'm taking all your money
I guess I should feel sorry
But I don't even trust me
There's bad news creeping up
And you feel a sudden chill
How do you do? My name is trouble
I'm coming in for the kill...
And you know I will

Set the ball A-Rollin
I'll be clicking off the miles
On the train of consequences
My boxcar life O' style
My thinking is derailed
I'm tied up to the tracks
The train of consequences
There ain't no turning back

No horse ever ran as fast
As the money that you bet
I'm blowing on my cards
And I play them to my chest
Life's fabric is corrupt
Shot through with corroded thread
As for me I hocked my brains
Packed my bags and headed west
*Beware!!!!*
