DON’T LET THE SUN GO DOWN ON ME by ELTON JOHN (lyrics by BERNIE TAUPIN)
I can't light no more of your darkness
All my pictures seem to fade to black and white
I'm growing tired, and time stands still before me
Frozen here, on the ladder of my life
Too late, to save myself from falling
I took a chance and changed your way of life
But you misread my meaning when I met you
Closed the door, and left me blinded by the light
Don't let the sun go down on me (don’t let the sun)
Although I search myself, it's always someone else I see
I'd just allow a fragment of your life to wander free
But losing everything is like the sun going down on me
I can't find, oh, the right romantic line
But see me once, and see the way I feel
Don't discard me just because you think I mean you harm
But these cuts I have, they need love to help them heal
Don't let the sun go down on me (don’t let the sun)
Although I search myself, it's always someone else I see
I'd just allow a fragment of your life to wander free
But losing everything is like the sun going down on me
Don't let the sun go down on me (don’t let the sun)
Although I search myself, it's always someone else I see
I'd just allow a fragment of your life to wander free
But losing everything is like the sun going down on me
THE LOSER IN THE END by QUEEN (vocals, music, and lyrics by ROGER TAYLOR)
Mama's got a problem
She don't know what to say
Her little baby boy has just left home today
She's got to be the loser in the end
She's got to be the loser in the end
Misuse her and you'll lose her as a friend
She's ma on whom you can always depend
Ooh
She washed and fed, and clothed and cared
For nearly twenty years
And all she gets is “Goodbye Ma”
And the nighttimes for her tears
She's got to be the loser in the end
She's got to be the loser in the end
Misuse her and you'll lose her as a friend
She's ma on whom you can always depend
Ooh, ooh
Ooh
We'll hear yah talkin' now
So listen mothers everywhere
To just one mother’s son
You'll get forgotten on the way
If you don't let them have their fun
Forget regrets, and just remember
It's not so long since you were young
You're bound to be the loser in the end
You're bound to be the loser in the end
They'll choose their new shoes
That's not far to bend
You're ma on whom they can always depend
Ooh, ooh
Ooh

I'm not a big fan of System of a Down, but I do like this song: it's angry, but intelligent at least.
"The Prison Song"
-Sytem Of A Down, Toxicity
They’re trying to build a prison
They’re trying to build a prison
Following the rights movement
You clamped on with your iron fists
Drugs became conveniently
Available for all the kids
Following the rights movement
You clamped on with your iron fists
Drugs became conveniently
Available for all the kids
I buy my crack, I smack my bitch
Right here in hollywood
(nearly 2 million americans are
Incarcerated in the prison system
Prison system of the us)
They’re trying to build a prison
They’re trying to build a prison
They’re trying to build a prison
(for you and me to live in)
Another prison system
Another prison system
Another prison system
(for you and me to live in)
Minor drug offenders fill your prisons
You don’t even flinch
All our taxes paying for your wars
Against the new non-rich
Minor drug offenders fill your prisons
You don’t even flinch
All our taxes paying for your wars
Against the new non-rich
I buy my crack, I smack my bitch
Right here in hollywood
The percentage of americans in the prison system
Prison system, has doubled since 1985
They’re trying to build a prison
They’re trying to build a prison
They’re trying to build a prison
(for you and me to live in)
Another prison system
Another prison system
Another prison system
For you and i, for you and i, for you and i.
They’re trying to build a prison
They’re trying to build a prison
They’re trying to build a prison
For you and me
Oh baby, you and me.
All research and successful drug policy show
That treatment should be increased
And law enforcement decreased
While abolishing mandatory minimun sentences
All research and successful drug policy show
That treatment should be increased
And law enforcement decreased
While abolishing mandatory minimun sentences
Utilising drugs to pay for secret wars around the world
Drugs are now your global policy now you police the globe
I buy my crack, I smack my bitch
Right here in hollywood
Drug money is used to rig elections
And train brutal corporate sponsored dictators
Around the world
They’re trying to build a prison
They’re trying to build a prison
They’re trying to build a prison
(for you and me to live in)
Another prison system
Another prison system
Another prison system
(for you and me to live in)
For you and i, for you and i, for you and i
For you and i
They’re trying to build a prison
They’re trying to build a prison
They’re trying to build a prison
For you and me
Oh baby, you and me

What an amazing song, Tony. Do they do "Critique of the health care system" as an encore?
Seriously, it has little to do with art or music but I am pleased to learn that that kind of stuff is out here. Balances some of the nastier rap stuff I have heard.

my ex-girlfriend wrote this one, along with many others. i really like her lyrics
black eyes see only sorrow
she's lost in a world,
with a dream to sleep
close her eyes, and
fade away
she's lost in a world,
where hope is gone
she has her dream,
not to carry on
go somewhere her eyes
can see
where her heart can feel
and love can be
she's lost somewhere,
she's been before
she keeps on fading
more and more
she's someone you don't
want to know
but if you ask, then
she will show
that even though her eyes
are closed
her heart can always feel
she's someone that,
you overlook
and think she dosen't know
but she's aware of everything
she watches them,
as they go
her black eyes, her angel eyes
are crying lonely tears
she falls into sleep, and
she's caught with her dreams

Hahaha  I'm glad you like it. It's actual metal not rap but there's some 'rapping' in it if you get my meaning. Some of it's song, some of it's just spoken to the loud crunch of guitars to try and give you an idea. I recommend downloading it if you can because I'm not doing it justice here.

Some Lucinda Williams..
Album: World Without Tears
Bleeding Fingers
You've got a sense of humor
You're a mystery
I heard a rumor
You're making history
Photographic dialogues
Beneath your skin
Pornographic episodes
Screaming sin
'Til its real live bleeding fingers
broken guitar strings
You are my Prince Charming
Draped in velvet robes
of all that's alarming
Raw and exposed
Shattered nerves
Itchy skin
Dirty words
and heroin
Better real live bleeding fingers
Broken guitar strings
(break)
I climbed all the way inside
Your tragedy
I got behind
The majesty
Of the different shapes
In every note
the endless tapes
of every word you wrote
With real live bleeding fingers
broken guitar strings
Atonement
Come on, Come on, Come on
Kill the rats in the gutter
Sings the voice in the choir
Bring your Father and your Mother
Sing it higher and higher
Shake the clammy hand
Repeat the 23rd psalm
Make you understand
Where it was you went wrong
Voices from tapes
Shouting with twisted tongues
Emotional rape
Hell fire scorched lungs
Come on, Come on, Come on
Pay close attention to this
Let me give you something good to eat
Bite down hard 'til it sticks between your teeth
Glory, glory we've killed the beast
Blinded by glittery diamonds
Resting on crooked fingers
Shaded eyes they are the ones
Who'll lead you to your deliverance
From the figure of doom
Force you to understand
Lock you in a room
With a holy roller and a one man band
Minneapolis
I've been waiting for you to come back
Since you left Minneapolis
Snow covers the streetlamps and the windowsills
The buildings and the brittle crooked trees
Dead leaves of December
Thin skinned and splintered
Never gotten used to this bitter winter
I've been wasted, angry and sad
Since you left Minneapolis
I wish my thoughts were pure like the driven snow
Like the heavens and the spring's virgin buds
But they strangle me with their sin
Fill me up with poison
Black clouds have covered up the sun again
I can always trace it back
To that night in Minneapolis
Here on the seventh floor in a room I can't call mine
Deadbolt on the door, do not disturb sign
Shaking and trembling
On the clean white linen
Slivers of starlight across the ceiling
A dozen yellow roses
All that's left in Minneapolis
I wish I'd never seen your face or heard your voice
You're a bad pain in my gut
I wanna spit you out
Open up this wound again
Let my blood flow red and thin
Into the glistening
Into the whiteness
Into the melting snow of Minneapolis
Words Fell
Words Fell
Like roses at our feet
When you let me see you cry
Your silent lips against my cheek
Words Fell
On a night as black as coal
Your kisses traveled deep
Your eyes pierced my soul
Words Fell
Words Fell
In another place and time
We lived within the woods
Ate berries from the vine
Words Fell
When we lay among the stones
And watched the Druids dance
And walked along the rocky shores
Words Fell
Words Fell
In another place and time
I knew your mournful blue
Knew your golden grace
Words Fell
When we let the ocean hold us
And sank beneath the waves
In the silences of the roses
Words Fell
Words Fell
Words Fell

@ Grimar, I really enjoyed that song your ex wrote.
@ Tony, Wonderful song. I got into trouble quoting a part of that song with a friend of mine when I smacked him in the back of the head.
I have Serj's poetry book
Cool Gardens.
@ Fiona, It isn't precisely rap. They are sort of a rock/rap/hardcore mix and a modern version of Rage Against the Machine IMO.
Another song they've done I find to be just brilliant about police brutality.
"Deer Dance" by System of a Down, Toxicity album
Round, Round,
Circumventing circuses,
Lamenting in protest,
To visible police,
Presence sponsored fear,
Battalions of riot police,
With rubber bullet kisses,
Baton courtesy,
Service with a smile
Beyond the Staples Center you can see America,
With its tired, poor, avenging disgrace,
Peaceful, loving youth against the brutality,
Of plastic existence.
Pushing little children,
With their fully automatics,
They like to push the weak around,
Pushing little children,
With their fully automatics,
They like to push the weak around.
Round, Round,
A rush of words,
Pleading to disperse,
Upon your naked walls, alive,
A political call,
The fall guy accord,
We can't afford to be neutral on a moving train,
Beyond the Staples Center you can see America,
With its tired, poor, avenging disgrace,
Peaceful, loving youth against the brutality,
Of plastic existence.
Pushing little children,
With their fully automatics,
They like to push the weak around,
Pushing little children,
With their fully automatics,
They like to push the weak around.
Push them around,
A deer dance, invitation to peace,
War staring you in the face, dressed in black.
With a helmet, fierce,
Trained and appropriate for the malcontents,
For the disproportioned malcontents,
The little boy smiled, it'll all be well,
The little boy smiled it'll all be well,
Pushing little children,
With their fully automatics,
They like to push the weak around,
Pushing little children,
With their fully automatics,
They like to push the weak around.
Pushing little children,
With their fully automatics,
They like to push the weak around,
Push the weak around,
Push the weak around,
Push the weak around,
They like to push the weak around.
Must go listen to SOAD now. *twitches*

another one my ex girlfriend wrote. (she has written a lot)
got no grip
As a phantom we walk the earth with anger.
Trying to force a smile if we can.
We’re trying to hide from the fact that we’re mortal
We try not to walk towards the end
But some have already given up,
Some are tired, some have stopped.
Some just left, they where petrified
For living it all out in flames
Break our rules, and disappear
Fly with anger, fly with fear
If you see me, then I’m here
Born to suffer, born to bleed
So amorphous, so annoyed
No one understands
Our footsteps burns among our hearts
Forgotten buried, standard stands
Wipes away the sanity
Ruined dreams, and gravity
Seems to slowly fade away
Got no grip, will leave today
Got no grip, will leave today

DOWN
Beautifully Depressed
This fits my life style
You can't fool the fool, 'cause I know it in my head
I just want the people to get some before they're dead
You can take my body and dry it in the sun
Seeing vultures circle overhead
This is the home of the beautifully depressed
Life is just a moment that rushes all at once
Letting the vultures surround me when I'm dead
I am the lord of the beautifully depressed
Endlessly, cum for me
Faithfully, bend for me
Lifelessly, hang for me
Endlessly, endlessly
Push me to the limit
I ain't afraid to die
Drive me to the limit
I proudly pledge to die
I dispell the madness by forgetting all the rules
You say I follow in the footsteps of pre-existing fools
Begging vultures to bury off my head
This is the hard life of the beautifully depressed
Endlessly, cum for me
Faithfully, bend for me
Lifelessly, hang for me
Endlessly, endlessly
Push me to the limit
I ain't afraid to die
Look before you're in it
Are you afraid to die
Then join the beautifully depressed
The beautifully depressed...

Saxon - Witchfinder General
Send for the general there's witches to burn
The day of their judgement draws night
Torment and torture the bringer of pain
desciples of satan will die
Tell me your secrets bring them to me
Give your confession your soul will be free
No one is save from the purging of fire
You'll rue the day that you sent for
The witchfinder general
Accusing the innocent prey on the weak
Its not just their souls that you seek
Friends will not help you they stand back in fear
Hide when the general is near
Trial is by water no one can win
Drown and your innocent guilty you swim
The gallows are waiting they're lighting the fire
There's no release from the monsters desire
Tell me your secrets Bring them to me
Give your confession your soul will be free
No one is save from the purging of fire
You'll rue the day that you sent for
The witchfinder general

NIGHTS IN WHITE SATIN by THE MOODY BLUES
Nights in white satin
Never reaching the end
Letters I've written
Never meaning to send
Beauty I'd always missed
With these eyes before
Just what the truth is
I can't say anymore
'Cause I love you
Yes, I love you
Oh, how I love you
Gazing at people
Some hand in hand
Just what I'm going through
They can understand
Some try to tell me
Thoughts they cannot defend
Just what you want to be
You will be in the end
And I love you
Yes, I love you
Oh, how I love you
Oh, how I love you
Nights in white satin
Never reaching the end
Letters I've written
Never meaning to send
Beauty I'd always missed
With these eyes before
Just what the truth is
I can't say anymore
'Cause I love you
Yes, I love you
Oh, how I love you
Oh, how I love you
'Cause I love you
Yes, I love you
Oh, how I love you
Oh, how I love you

I like that one OS, the Moody Blues are good stuff.
Seeing as I made an allusion to this song in another thread, it's only fair... Oasis are, well, repetitive and annoying if nothing else but so damn catchy.
"Champagne Supernova"
-Oasis,
What's the Story (Morning Glory)?
How many special people change?
How many lives are living strange?
Where were you while we were getting high?
Slowly walking down the hall
Faster than a cannonball
Where were you while we were getting high?
Someday you will find me
Caught beneath the landslide
In a champagne supernova in the sky
Someday you will find me
Caught beneath the landslide
In a champagne supernova
A champagne supernova in the sky
Wake up the dawn and ask her why
A dreamer dreams, she never dies
Wipe that tear away now from your eye
Slowly walking down the hall
Faster than a cannonball
Where were you while we were getting high?
Someday you will find me
Caught beneath the landslide
In a champagne supernova in the sky
Someday you will find me
Caught beneath the landslide
In a champagne supernova
A champagne supernova
'Cuz we don't believe
That they're gonna get away from the summer
But you and I will never die
The world's still spinning around we don't know why
Why-why-why-why-i-i
How many special people change?
How many lives are living strange?
Where were you while we were getting high?
Slowly walking down the hall
Faster than a cannonball
Where were you while we were getting high?
Someday you will find me
Caught beneath the landslide
In a champagne supernova in the sky
Someday you will find me
Caught beneath the landslide
In a champagne supernova
A champagne supernova
'Cuz we don't believe
That they're gonna get away from the summer
But you and I will never die
The world's still spinning around we don't know why
Why-why-why-why-i-i
How many special people change?
How many lives are living strange?
Where were you while we were getting high?
We were getting high

I heard this on my way to work this morning....reminded me how much I love this song.....
"Collide" - Howie Day
The dawn is breaking
A light shining through
You're barely waking
And I'm tangled up in you
Yeah
I'm open, you're closed
Where I follow, you'll go
I worry I won't see your face
Light up again
Even the best fall down sometimes
Even the wrong words seem to rhyme
Out of the doubt that fills my mind
I somehow find
You and I collide
I'm quiet you know
You make a frist impression
I've found I'm scared to know I'm always on your mind
Even the best fall down sometimes
Even the stars refuse to shine
Out of the back you fall in time
I somehow find
You and I collide
Even the best fall down sometimes
Even the wrong words seem to ryhme
Out of the doubt that fills your mind
You finally find
You and I collide
You finally find
You and I collide
You finally find
You and I collide

nice song juni....I heard that one...its nice
Recorded by "Spandau Ballet"
Album: "True" - 1983
"Huh huh huh hu-uh huh
So true funny how it seems
always in time, but never in line for dreams.
Head over heels when toe to toe.
This is the sound of my soul,
this is the sound
I bought a ticket to the world,
but now I've come back again
Why do I find it hard to write the next line?
Oh I want the truth to be said
Huh huh huh hu-uh huh
I know this much is true
Huh huh huh hu-uh huh
I know this much is true
With a thrill in my head and a pill on my tongue
dissolve the nerves that have just begun
Listening to Marvin (all night long)
This is the sound of my soul,
this is the sound
Always slipping from my hands,
Sets a time of its own
Take your seaside arms and write the next line
Oh I want the truth to be known
Huh huh huh hu-uh huh
I know this much is true
Huh huh huh hu-uh huh
I know this much is true
I bought a ticket to the world,
but now I've come back again
Why do I find it hard to write the next line?
Oh I want the truth to be said
Huh huh huh hu-uh huh
I know this much is true
Huh huh huh hu-uh huh
I know this much is true
This much is true
I know, I know, I know this much is true "

Thanks slade! that whole album is pretty cool....he's from Maine too!
"Diamonds on the Inside" - Ben Harper
I knew a girl
Her name was truth
She was a horrible liar.
She couldnt spend one day alone
But she couldnt be satisfied.
When you have everything,
You have everything to lose.
She made herself
A bed of nails
And shes plannin' on puttin' it to use.
Cos she had diamonds on the inside
She had diamonds on the inside
She had diamonds on the inside
Diamonds
A candle throws its light into the darkness
In a nasty world,so shines the good deed
Make sure the fortune, that you seek
Is the fortune you need.
So tell me why,the first to ask,is the last to give, everytime
What you say and do not mean
Follow too close behind
Cos she had diamonds on the inside
She had diamonds on the inside
She wore diamonds on the inside
Diamonds
Like a soldier standing long under fire
Any change comes as a relief.
Let the giver's name remain unspoken
For she is just a generous thief.
But she had diamonds on the inside
Cos she had diamonds on the inside
She wore diamonds on the inside
She wore diamonds
Oh diamonds
She had diamonds
She wore diamonds
Diamonds

I heard that song "collide" last night
ASK ME WHY - The Beatles
"I love you
Cause you tell me things I want to know
And it's true
that it really only goes to show
That I know that I, I, I, I,
should never never never be blue
Now you're mine
my happiness dear makes me cry
And in time
you'll understand the reason why
If I cry it's not because I'm sad
But you're the only love that I've ever had
I can't believe, it's happened to me
I can't conceive of anymore misery
Ask me why, I'll say I love you
And I'm always thinking of you
I love you
Cause you tell me things I want to know
And it's true
that it really only goes to show
That I know that I, I, I, I,
should never never never be blue
Ask me why, I'll say I love you
And I'm always thinking of you
I can't believe, it's happened to me
I can't conceive of anymore misery
Ask me why, I'll say I love you
And I'm always thinking of you, you, you"

I want to dedicate this song to Fiona the Apologetic
Nick Cave - Thirsty Dog Lyrics
I know you've heard it all before
But I'm sorry for this three year war
For the setting up of camps
and wire and trenches
I'm sorry for the other night
I know sorry it don't make it right
I'm sorry for things I can't even mention
I'm sorry, sorry, sorry, sorry
I'm sitting feeling sorry in the Thirsty Dog
I'm sorry, sorry, sorry, sorry
I'm feeling very sorry in the Thirsty Dog
You keep nailing me back into my box
I'm sorry I keep popping back up
With my crazy mouth
and jangling jester's cap
I'm sorry I ever wrote taht book
I'm sorry for the way I look
But there ain't a lot that
I can do about that
I'm sorry, sorry, sorry, sorry
I'm sitting feeling sorry in the Thirsty Dog
I'm sorry, sorry, sorry, sorry
I'm feeling very sorry in the Thirsty Dog
I'm sorry about the hospital
Some things are unforgivable
That things simply cannot be forgiven
I was not equipped to know how to care
Amnd on the occassions I came up for air
I saw my life and wondered
what the hell I had been living
I'm sorry, sorry, sorry, sorry
I'm sitting feeling sorry in the Thirsty Dog
I'm sorry, sorry, sorry, sorry
I'm feeling very very sorry in the Thirsty Dog
I'm sorry about all your friends
I hope they'll speak to me again
I said before I'd pay for all the damages
I'm sorry it's just rotten luck
I'm sorry I've forgotten how to f**k
It's just that I think my heart
and soul are kind of famished
I'm sorry, sorry, sorry, sorry
I'm sitting feeling sorry in the Thirsty Dog
I'm sorry, sorry, sorry, sorry
I'm feeling very sorry in the Thirsty Dog
Forgive me, baby but don't worry
Love is always having to
say you're sorry
And I am, from my head
down to my shoes
I'm sorry that I'm always pissed
I'm sorry that I exist
And when I look into your eyes
I can see you're sorry too
I'm sorry, sorry, sorry
I'm sitting feeling sorry in the Thirsty Dog
I'm sorry, sorry, sorry
I'm feeling very sorry in the Thirsty Dog
I'm sorry, sorry, sorry
I'm feeling very thirsty in the Sorry Dog
I'm sorry, sorry, sorry
I'm feeling very sorry in the Thirsty Dog

Kansas
Carry On My Wayward Son
{Refrain
Carry on my wayward son
There'll be peace when you are done
Lay your weary head to rest
Don't you cry no more
Once I rose above the noise and confusion
Just to get a glimpse beyond this illusion
I was soaring ever higher
But I flew too high
Though my eyes could see I still was a blind man
Though my mind could think I still was a mad man
I hear the voices when I'm dreaming
I can hear them say
{Refrain
Masquerading as a man with a reason
My charade is the event of the season
And if I claim to be a wise man, well
It surely means that I don't know
On a stormy sea of moving emotion
Tossed about I'm like a ship on the ocean
I set a course for winds of fortune
But I hear the voices say
{Refrain
No!

Here's another Aussie band, not very well known, but they have a great first album, a lot of the song is in the music, so the lyrics don't sound as good, but anyway...
WolfMother - "Woman"
Well we always seem to worry,
Life's becoming such a flurry,
Can't you see that theres light in the dark,
Nothin's quite what it seems in the city of dreams,
Rainbows tinted with gold,
All the stories we've been told,
Still her love is yours to behold,
Nothin's quite what it seems in the city of dreams,
You say it's not the real world,
Though it seems so real to me,
And i know that we're never turning back,
Can you see what i see,
I had a vision,
Of festive day's,
She's like an eagle,
In the misted haze,
Sit and wonder at the sky,
Watch the river flowing by,
Now it ends and we're here at the start,
Nothin's quite what it seems in the city of dreams,
You say it's not the real world,
Though it seems so real to me,
And i know that we're never turning back,
Can you see what i see,
I had a vision,
Of festive day's,
She's like an eagle,
In the misted haze,
Oh break my chains girl,
Show me to the land,
Where people live together,
Try to understand,
