you guys pay too much attention to stats! you can still beat the game quite easily even if your attributes aren't all 18 and dual class at the optimal moment

Why do you all dual imoen?
Also, i don't think people put all their stats at the highest (i don't think that's even possible) but considering you have to play a very long game with your character, you want him to get the maximum out of his class. I mean, I ALWAYS put my intelligence at 18 and why shouldn't I? I don't want to miss out on any spells.

If you dual Imoen I strongly recommend dualing her to a mage specialist (I'd prefer illusionist) instead of a mage.

I want to dual Imoen because I myself play a thief. But, when I dual her she can still use her thief abilities like looking for traps, right? Because, my character are better at open locks and pickpocketing.
How does dual-classes work? Say a thief/mage.

She will keep her existing skills in detecting traps, but they will not improve.
(Traps become progressively more difficult as you go through the game)
This is possibly why those who dual her do so when her level has increased somewhat.

As long as you don't have more levels in the new class than in the old, you don't have access to any of the skills of the old class.

Is it enough with the same level or do I have to be one higher? Imoen is now level 6 thief and level 6 mage, but she doesn't seem to be able to use her thieving abilites?

The second class needs to be one level higher than the first class before you regain the abilities of the first class.
