The only time that I can find where Malchor Harpell appear is after you exit Bohdi's area, after killing her. Also it does not matter if you wear the item or not; as long as you have any of them in the inventory of any of the member of your party, he will appear and demand them back.

So, if I drop the stuff on Bodhi's doorstep and pick it up again after I get out, I should be fine?

I have tried that. Malchor will continue to dog you until you either give him the stuff, or his imrpisons you.

You can keep the stuff - at least some of it. Say, for example, you like his swords. Put his swords somewhere, like on a table in your stronghold. Then, go about your business, kill Bodhi and encounter the mage. The mage will demand Drizzt's stuff, and you can give it to him (the armor and the figurine and whatever else). He won't bither you again, so you can go back to your stronghold and pick up the swords. Keep in mind that you have to have at least one of Drizzt's items on you to give back to the mage or else this won't work.

thanks tom, that was the original answer the post was created for :)

also, i think i need to defend my "cheese". i play parties no bigger than 3 people (enough to utilize the greater equipment in the game, while keeping experience high), so i quaff invis' or run away from pretty much every big fight, otherwise my tank just runs through and cleans everything up.

even if drizzts circle jerk of friends shouldve been able to see me, the battle is still relatively simple with my berserker wearing dragon scale and ring of fire control. fighter/mage with vecna shoots fireball, berserker stuns with celestial fury, theif/mage shoots fireball, berserker moves to next opponent, ad infinitum. no spells are cast by adversary, and if any are, my hps are too high and saves too low for any of it to matter. this is all with the 2.95 mil xp cap.

im not posting a specific tactic in order to make an excuse, im merely pulling something from my repitoire of tactics that could be employed in any fighters + mages heavy battle.

Hi. I was just wondering what encounter you meant. If you kill him just after the underdark ddoes the mage appear? or is this only after you/bodhi kill him in bodhi's tomb?

When I solo anything Mage-like, my first response when I run into something that makes me think: "Oh, cr@p!" is to turn invisible and take a few steps back. Mislead really helps. :)
