Drizzt encounter

Post by ParadoxIncarnate »

after you kill drizzt and get his phat l3wt, how do you keep it? some mage portals in and takes it from you, and from the dialogue options i saw, i could see nothing that would allow me to kill him or for me to keep the swords.

also, ive beaten the game a couple times, but never got to the bottom of some of the things. what is the pimlico estate for? what does officer dirth in the docks district tavern do? i pickpocketed him, got the letter that incriminates roenall, but i couldnt get into the roenall estate, either.

The only way to keep Drizzts stuff is to use the export trick (export into new game, drop items while the screen is black) but takes too long OR you could CLUA the items back in after the mage leaves. :D

As for your other questions the pimlico estate is part of Korgans quest, Officer Dirth and the Roenall estate are part of Nalia's quest later on.

What happens when you drop Drizzt's stuff on the ground just before the annoying Mage tries to take it? Can't you pick it up afterwards?

the mage said something to the effect of "you wont like what happens to you if we find any more of his equipment on you."

perhaps you could stash the swords, wear the mithril armor, then brandish the swords a bit and you can kill the mage?

any additional input (non hack related) would be appreciated.

This guy is supposedly killable with Mind Flayer Int drain (Shapechange), or any other attribute drain (like Haer'Dalis' Chaos Sword or Ray of Enfeeblement and multiple Contagions). Never did it myself, though.

btw dont you guys find it a litle wierd to get commanded around by Malchor Harpel ?
I mean acording to the books this dude is an idiot, bigtime.
If Alustriel would show up and tell me i shall hand her Drizzts stuff, i would do it, because shes a real powerhouse.
But Malchor ?
Hes an Idiot !
Thats crazy, just think about it, you wipe out armys of demons and liches, but you can do nothing at all to harm this dumb wannbe mageling.

you never get the chance to kill Harpel. He casts imprisonment as soon as the dialogue ends, with no chance of disrupting it. So far, I have found no way to keep Drizzts stuff, asdie from just killing him.

Not enough time to implement it.

you could activate it before the dialogue was initiated. mine happened when coming out of bodhis tomb, so... either berserk in the tomb or pause as soon as you exit and berserk before the dialogue?

That could possibly work, but then you get the fun time of freeing everyone from imprisonment. At the same time though, because it imprisons everyone with one casting, it may be written into the script that the party will also become imprisoned if they piss Malchor off, and keep Drizzt's stuff.

You're thinking of Harkle Harpell. Malchor was the one who lives by himself in a hidden tower. He gave Drizzt Twinkle.

Um... When does this Malchor dude show up? I just whooped Drizzt's hiney and took his lewt, but no-one has come to take it off me for a few days...

Quite a tough fight, by the way! For BG2 standards, at least. :D First time I actually used a couple of Greater Whirlwinds and charges from the Rod of Resurrection. It helps that you cannot prep before you meet him (8 hours pass during travel, and there's no time before the encounter).

like i said earlier, happened after i whipped up on bodhi.

was it really that difficult of a fight? none of them have any means of detecting invisible, so i just quaffed a few invis potions, ran out of sight, then either chopped them up with my berserker with -12 AC, celestial fury, and belm, or i threw 5 fireballs at them. i cant remember.

thats like saying rogues shouldnt hide from their adversaries because it isnt catering to the warriors strengths. just because i exercised discretion rather than brawn doesnt mean i exploited the system.

Not quite the same thing, @PI. A rogue would naturally know that a fighter couldn't see him while hiding. But your character had no way of gaining prior knowledge that Drizzt's party couldn't blast invisibility--that knowledge was yours, outside the game.
To the Righteous belong the fruits of violent victory. The rest of us will have to settle for warm friends, warm lovers, and a wink from a quietly supportive universe.

Yeah, but you used the "insufficient" AI to exploit the fact that they don't pursue attacks made from outside their sight. With the new Baldurdash patches, and other such things that you can D/L, that sort of thing wouldn't be plausible. Besides, Guenwyhvar should've been able to see you at least.

Well, considering I handled just about the whole of Chapters 3 and 4 by equipping the Shield of Harmony & Ring of Free Action and letting the AI script simply bash the nearest enemy (can you say: "Dull!"), this was quite the surprise to me.

Not that I actually had to try hard, or anything... Drizzt isn't exactly built to deal with a 7 mil XP character. :D

Why wouldn't anyone else naturally know that a fighter can't see him if he drinks a Potion of Invisibility? Seems good sense to me...

?!? Where can I get my hands on these patches? I was under the impression that only me and Spork were working on this. ;)

And, no, I haven't finished anything just yet, but if anyone is interested, I can quickly make a very basic "Anti-Cloudkill, Anti-Bait one enemy at a time and beat them up"-patch. With a number of limitations, though (which is why nothing is finished yet).

Ah, so if I beat Drizzt up but never actually wear any of his stuff, no-one gets upset? :D
