80?!? Yikes, be prepared for many embaressing and reputation reducing moments with 80%... for stress free shop-lifting I usually go for anything between 200 and 250. Anything over 250ish wraps the skill back down to zero (because of some 8-bit geekery I don't understand at all :D ) so be careful. There's loads of ways to boost even Nalia's pickpocketing to decent levels; potions of master thievery and perception, gloves of pickpocketing...potions of mind focusing or anything that increases dexterity help too. Even Draw upon Holy Might if you're playing a thiefter and have it as a Bhaal power. :D

Yes, distracting the lichie :D A wand of summoning is quite a nice thing to have (and keep recharching for free with your thief). The monsters are respectable (not the wild dog :) ) but are pure fodder to annoying enemies and their death spells. Poor power-blinded lich wasting her imprisonments on a ogre berserker or a gnoll elite LOL

True, very true. Wand of monster summoning (its closer to monster summoning II) is the cheapest way of getting a lich or whatnot to expend loads of spells harmlessly...although there's something quite pointlessly satisfying about seeing a lich blow a timestop, spell trigger and several symbol spells on...a kobold. I always keep or steal monster summoning I for such occasions. Sad but true :D

I've had "training sessions" where I'll just keep CLUA-ing in liches to fight for experience/fun/educational purposes. I think I once did like 35 of them, using something like 6 wands of monster summoning 50 charges each (well I was overdoing it a little bit). You can imagine the state of affairs when I was done ~~ you could probably collect all those weapons and arrows and try to make a profit LOL ;)

The Wand of M.S. is way better than Monster summoning III: it summons 12 HD of monsters (usually 3/4 monster of 4/3 HD each), while M.S. III summon one 5 HD monster 60% of the time and two the rest (average 7 HD of summons).

You're totally correct, but I was thinking in terms of the type of monsters...both the wand and MSII get you hobgoblins, wolves, gnolls or ogres.

I hate it when I get hobgoblins out of the wand. Vampiric wolves naturally are the preferred choice because of their magical attacks, but there is something just plain annoying about hobgoblins...

Not that any of this matters when bombarding liches with fodder :D

monster summoning...

interesting series of spells in that monster summon I is BETTER than monster summon II or III...

summon I can get you archers, while the fodder you get in II and III are much much worse than invisible stalkers, aerial servents or fire elementals, and don't even talk about skeleton warriors...

the wand of course is best...

try using the wand, hope for orc archers, and use invisible stalkers or skellies to engage enemy group melee while the orc archers from the wand attack with bows... :p

besides, if the orc archers get killed, they leave behind ammo, often fire arrows... :)
They call me Darth...

Darth Gizka!

Muwahahahahhahahha!!!

Mordy swords: you can also kill these with orb.

Improved Spider: far too overpowered imho. When experimenting with this item i actually felt sorry for my enemies, and disgusted at my party of cheats. Mods aside, i think the original kitthix is a nice summons.

Stealing: i didnt realise for a long time that you could stack the effects of several potions of master thievery. Usually drinking 3 lets you steal whatever you wish- the entire contents of the store even- and the vendor will not notice.

Hasted Skeleton Warriors: Just thinking of these makes me want to re-install now and go back and play again. These fellows are the ultimate servants. One point not mentioned is that if you catch the skeletons in AE they generally just resist it and continue pummelling the enemy. Fire elementals (and other stuff) go hostile if you use AE and it catches them. This was an annoying early experience one time; why would a fire elemental mind getting caught up in a fireball anyway?

Do projects and sims count as summons? if so, my favorite summon of all time is Project Nalia. I think i beat most of the game with Project Nalia, while real nalia and the rest of the party sat dranking ale in a tavern somewhere

Morderkins sword is my favorite with the skeleton comming in on a close second.

They might not be the best there is in the game, but ít was what I used most and would use most.

Moderkins sword because of the only magical damage rule and skeletons because of Mindflayers :D

I agree ~ it's rather overpowered, but so are a lot of your improved enemies also from the mods. I would never use it in a vanilla game, there is little need to. But heck, it's a nice summon. Give it some protection from magic energy, improved haste and improved invisibility and kiss your enemies bye-bye (well, until they cast death spell, that is) :D :D
