Shortswords, definitely. Backstabbing is just too sexy.

I like backstabbing too, but use a longsword. Is there a reason that other backstabbers go for the short sword? In addition I also like the dagger of venom for the reasons given by Squee. I would have thought that it was non-magical, but not having read the script too closely could be wrong.
I guess because it sounds so appropriate. Going back to magical stuff, the Shortsword of Backstabbing gives you the highest bonus to THAC0 from all the swords you can backstab with... given that you don't go ranger slaying, if you know what I mean. (I'm sure you do.)

I'm a big fan of big Clerics and slings score a ton of damage.
I like slings too, they are my ranged weapon of choice for most classes
My all time favourite weapon would have to be a hammer. I always have Viconia equipped with the hammer that does electrical damage. Another favourite, but you don't get it until near the end which is why it comes after a hammer, is the Short Sword of Backstabbing. That weapon is just perfect when role-playing a thief/assassin type character
and these things are sick. Slow, but sick.
