Constant effect not working

Hmm, I might have to try that. That would be odd for the potions to work and not changing the character through the command console. If the command console way wouldn't work, and it does in game, then that means the programmers screwed up the play-testing commands.

I seem to recall reading that Enablestatreviewmenu also runs the risk messing up your character, as well as causing you to lose all items in your possession. Can't confirm this personally, though it's been discussed up on the ES boards. So if true, it wouldn't be the first time. I know the Bethsoft team disclaim any responsibility for using their console commands, which in itself should say something. Presumably whatever doesn't work may have at one point earlier in development, only to be superceded by new code without the command ever needing replacement.

Heh, if they claim no responsibility, then chances are it's an "oops" on one of the programmer's parts. My attempt at game design showed me the reasons all those things are put into games. It's altered the way I use games too. I never heard about that, or used that code though. I'm assuming it is an actual code to bring up a menu? Probably used to tear apart a character in game, remake him/her and see how they work in various sections of the game by play-testers. I wouldn't be surprised if that was buggy.

Yes, I came to the same conclusion. Basically, it helps to think why a console command might have been created before attempting to run it, because it's clear at least some of it was simply for testing purposes, and you use it at your own discretion.

We had a few testing commands like that left in the MMORPG I worked on for a few years, in fact. Old, old commands that we as GMs never used any longer, long superceded, but were never removed from the compilation. Of course, we *usually* annotated the scripts with notes about what we were doing--at least those of us who cared to communicate in more than just code. :rolleyes:

Heh, yeah. I remember the day I conviced my graphics designer and programmer in our group to sit down and watch what I could accomplish with the Morrowind engine. They had never bothered with the game, being FPS fans. They were astounded, and quickly set to tearing through the command console and seeing what it could take before crashing. It was a fun day.

I made a sword with the enchanter in balmora when I dropped a ton of gold on my character. I struck a guard, and killed everyone within a 5 building radius of me. They drooled and went further, and made me a suit of armor, each piece of it being CE regen, bonus to attributes, etc. That's when the game started crashing....They had fun playing with all the little things that affected the visuals with the environment too.
